To expect the swimming pool at our gym to be warm enough for children to actually stay in it without going blue ?

I think our gym has been hit by the credit crunch because every time I use the pool it is progressively colder. This morning was a total joke. We had arranged to meet some friends there. DS was fine as he had his victorian style bathing suit on and is quite well padded and I just made a point of splashing around a lot. However my friends DDs were far too cold and had to leave after 10 minutes because they just wouldn't stay in the pool.
When we complain they just give some guff about Health & Safety.

Sorry probably the most boring AIBU as patently I am not, but its so blinkin annoying.

i hate this and had to invest in a proper wetsuit to keep dd warm when she goes in our local pool . now she is ok but I get cold!

Threaten to withdraw your membership because the facilities are unusable. If they quibble threaten them with publicity.

Pools should not be too hot or too cold, but pools used by children should be warm enough not to require constant movement.

At our gym we have a separate pool for children which is a lovely, balmy temperature, much warmer than the main pool which is used for exercise.

The chidlrens pool used to be warmer but then they changed it because apparently the warmer water was lapping over into the adults pool and that was a Health and Safety issshhooo apparently . Must try more strident complaining, particularly as am thinking of using the council pool instead as I don't really get time/inclination to use the gym on my own much these days anyway. They do have a nice play corner though and Starbcks...

you never know others may have been complaining that it was too warm.
very strange though that they'd have the childrens pool cold as well, surely as it's shallow it'd be a lot easier to heat.fwiw i complained that the pool i use was too warm to do a proper exercise in the other day,so perhaps they are getting it from both sides.

I work in a leisure centre, absolutely right mayor quimby we get it from both sides. Chlorine is not as effective over 30c and if it's cloudy, that's the chlorine with dirt attached. As for jacuzzis...

I'm told the pool at our gym is 37C, but I dont' believe it. DS shivers through his swimming lesson.

I'm told if it'sany warmer peopel might suffer from cramp.

skidoodle · 04/10/2008 12:54

YANBU is it's a special children's pool.

I love to swim though and so many pools are overheated as mayorquimby says, impossible to exercise in.

@ the water from the chidren's pool splashing over into the adult pool. Unless the adult pool is the size of a bath, then surely that would not make a significant difference.
