To think that a shop that you've ordered goods from online, shouldn't send your invoice with your full credit card details printed on it?

By full details I mean: the whole card number, expiry date, even the security number on the back, printed out clearly for anyone to see?

The invoice was in an envelope which was stuck to the side of the box the items were delivered in with selotape.

Problem is, some of the things I ordered were out of stock and should be being delivered in a week or so, so if I go making a fuss about the card details, are they going to piss around either with my card details or with the rest of the order?

write to cust services? i'd imagine the orders dept never talk to them so unlikely to cause probs with the rest of your order. and they do need to be told!

Problem is it's only a small shop, it is just a lady that runs it, so there are no different departments as such.

God... tell me name of shop. I don't want to make the mistake of EVER shopping there

IfYouDidntLaughYoudCry · 02/10/2008 12:58

Didn't know they were allowed to do that - it's very uncommon not to have some of the digits starred out isn't it?

Is it something you need urgently? I would definitely say something at risk of future items being delayed unless you really need.

VictorianSqualor · 02/10/2008 13:03

That's terrible.
I'd call her with the tone 'I'm not sure you're aware that your invoices have all the information needed on my credit/debit card to make a purchase so anyone could get hold of it, I'm a bit concerned, for both your and my security'

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 02/10/2008 13:03

Don't really want to name shop incase it was a genuine error and then I don't get my stuff. If it isn't sorted out properly though, I will deffo name and shame!

Do you think a friendly email along the lines of "I don't know if you aware but...." might do the trick? I am not too bothered about the items being delayed/cancelled, I can order them from somewhere else if needs be, I am more worried about them having my card details.

Acts of revenge on my credit card are not my idea of fun!

yes i would always start out friendly, maybe she just doesn't have a clue.

Does this sound a bit too dumbed down:

Hi xxxxx,

I received some of the items yesterday, they are lovely thank you, however I do have a small problem. On the invoice you sent (attached to the outside of the box) my credit card details, including credit card number, expiry dates, even the security code on the back of the card, were printed out clearly for anyone to see. Obviously these are all of the details anyone would need to purchase anything they liked and charge it to my card.

Could you possibly ensure that any further invoices/contact are free from my confidential details, I would just hate for it to get into the wrong hands.

Kind regards

????

Fingers crossed it does the trick!

I did not even think that when you order on line the person you are dealing with got to see your security number, I thought it was checked electronically against your card details, as it is supposed to prevent credit card fraud by ensuring the person ordering has the card with them, has not just copied down a number from where they work/cloned a card in a machine.

its a disgrace in this day and age with all the publicity of ID theft etc that anyone running a business would do this. You don't think there is any foul play on the part of the "supposed" shop owner do you?

I also suggest sending the invoice to your credit card company and getting THEM to complain too, might be the shock they need to wise up!

Also there is no harm in alerting the c card co to the POSSIBILITY that the card may be open to abuse, sometimes they will phone you to check if any suspicious purchases are attempted.Dh did this when he realised he had been sending paypal details to an ebay spoof letter saying an ebayer had complained about non payment

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 02/10/2008 15:40

I thought the same Loobey, but obviously they get to see it all.

There has been some suggestion on another thread I'm on that it could have been the business copy (rather than the customer copy, with the numbers masked) that was sent to me by mistake.

I am keeping an eye on my credit card account on line, hadn't thought about pre-warning the cc company, will do that. I don't think there is any foul play involved though, the items that were in stock had been dispatched quickly and are what I ordered, and they have only invoiced for the items that have been dispatched so far.

The shop owner has replied just to say sorry and she'll look into it to make sure it doesn't happen again.

There is no harm done this time, just wouldn't like for there to be a chance of it happening again.
