Tesco chocolate celebration cake is yummy for around £6 and the adults will like it aswell. We usually get this one for work celebrations cos it is tasty and cheap ohh and chocolate cos we all love chocolate at work

we had the smartie traybake one from tesco the other week £6.97. very good value and full of rolos or other sweets.

Had the wonderful thorntons celebration cake for DS last month and at £9.99 also yummy and good value.

You really dont need to be spending a fortune.

How on earth can cakes in soft-play centres cost £50 - I'm appauled - have you got a link for us to the venue? I'll give em a piece of my mind

Make your own or get Sainsbury one for £7 or £8 quid.

if I were to home make a cake for you (I do the odd cake for friends) a sponge with sugarpaste icing would cost me at least £10 in ingredients as sugarpaste/board etc are expensive - and I use fairly traded and organic ingredients where possible. If you want a big cake and were to pay me for my time too £35 not unreasonable.

But that is an awful lot to pay I agree when you can get one for £6.99 in Tesco

I regularly make cakes for friends and family and charge around £35 for them, so I agree with Panda on that front.

However, I have no doubt that the cakes they are supplying are not nearly as nice as a personalized one from me or Panda!

About this 'worlds worst baker' I bet you're not! Imho, a child will remember a homemade cake by mummy, far longer than a shop bought one. Go on! Give it a go!

m&s do a nice big birthday cake with balloons iced on and space to add your dc's name if you want to. £10.

and cos it's m&s it means it only contains free range eggs, no hydrog fat, no artificial colours or preservatives.

If you want to make a chocolate cake try the Jane Asher chocolate fudge cake. Its amazing and only costs £1.99 from Sainsburys and always looks amazing.

Soft play places are notoriously over-priced.
The supermarkets do decent ones if you can't make your own.
