to think that I should be able to enjoy a drink without a dog running about in my local?

Went out for ad drink with my mate last night to our local pub. Enjoying ourselves fine until a man appeared with a dog. The dog was given free rein of the pub, running behind the bar, into the private area behind (Where the kitchen is) and all over the place. It was going under people's tables and chairs and chasing an apple all over the place. Now this is a nice pub in a nice area and dogs have never been allowed in - there wwere also children in which is a first as they were never allowed in before. When we spoke to the barmaid (I am allergic to dogs) she said it belonged to the manager and was allowed to go everywhere in the pub!! The people behind us complained and left and we compalind twice as the blo**y thing kept coming up to us and going under our table. First of all the manaager loudly spoke about us to his mates as if we were very unreasonable. Second time he said 'sorry' but still didn't restrain his dog. I'm now really suffering with all the allergic reaction symptoms and feel really annoyed. I've fired off an email to the head office of the group which owns the pub as the manager really did not care about how annoying hs dog was being. Also for H&S and basic hygiene - they sell food FGS I think this is bang out of order. SO AIBU or not???

Well I don't like dogs, so no YANBU at all if it was being annoying and snuffling around the place. YUK! Especially if there's food about.

Dog slobber turns my stomach.

I would think 'ugh' & go somewhere else in future. I really don't wish dogs any harm, but I dislike having them anywhere near me.

If it were a free house then fair enough, it's the licensee's business decision as to whether he/she has a dog roaming the premises (knowing that some customers will inevitably be put off by it).

In a chain pub I'd expect there to be an agreed policy on licensees' pets & their access to the bar area...

I think there's a difference between a dog 'being' in a pub ie sitting by the fire or walking about in the pub garden, and a dog being a nuisance - chewing people's clothes, jumping up at them, invading their space. I am allergic to dogs as well and don't think it's unreaasonable to ask people to keep their fucking hairy stinking fleabags under control and away from me.

i think theres no problem with the dog being in the pub per se, provided its under control.

dogs wandering from table to table is fine by me (i used to go to a pub where the dogs patrolled the tables waiting to hoover up the slightest crumb that fell on the floor ) but then i like dogs....if it was a cat walking about i'd be much less charitable!

dogs in pubs fine imo IF they are under control

Ah, I see. Sorry if I seemed a little rude, but am a bit defensive about the general public perception of forties, so had climbed on my soap box to deliver my 'it isn't the breed that is the problem...' lecture.

jumps off soapbox

He sounds like a gorgeous dog.

'forties'? Damn auto spell check! I meant rotties!
