My dd is in year 5 (9/10 year olds) and when they have a p.e lesson they have to change in class room as they have done in years 3 and 4,boys in one classroom girls in another... however for some strange reason this year my dd's class are all getting changed in class room all together...my dd is mortified and so are her friends as, at the tender age of 9 and 10 their bodies are starting to develop into young ladies iykwim!! they boys are staring etc, they have not made any comments as yet but to be honest its only a matter of time and that could be a nightmare if a bad comment is made to these young girls. I want to go to school and have a word, am i being silly??

DS1 is in Y5 - they change separately, I've just checked

No YANBU. It should not be happening.

At the school I teach in, yr 5 and yr 6 boys and girls get changed separately. It is easy enough to do. E.g girls go into cloakroom/toilets, boys in classroom. You should have a word with the teacher.

Given that when we've discussed swimming pool changing rooms on here it seems to turn out that most pools 'ban' children from the opposite sex changing rooms at age 8, it seems pretty unreasonable that schools are insisting on children older than that getting changed in a mixed sex environment.

I do remember getting changed in the classroom straight after our very first sex education (aged 10/11), now that WAS uncomfortable.

I think that all the mothers of 8 yr old boys who are insisting on taking their 8yr old sons into the female changing area should take note. As I remember it they entirely discounted the feelings of young girls.
