to expect ASDA and NEXT to sell clothes for 12/13 yr olds

I went to both Asda and NEXt looking for clothes for my tall 11 yr old. She needs age 12/13 and neither NExt or ASda do them.

In next they said we had to order it from teh catalogue and pay for a catalogue. I'm sorry but if you want me to buy from you, I'm not paying twice for teh privilege.

In ASDA i was told that the adult clothes now start in a size 4 for her to chose from. These clothes are for ADults, and she is 11. I don;t want my 11, 12 or 13 yr old wearing the clothes that 18 or 19 yr olds out clubbing would wear.

What do you think. I feel like a letter of complaint coming on - perhaps a mumsnet campaign!

if milton keynes closer then it has a h&m.. also big new look, actually northampton has big new look,
if you like primark then bedford one is worth a trip, open on sundays

Matalan goes up to 12/13 in its children's ranges. Granted my youngest has been a boy for a long time now so I don't look at the girls' clothes, but there has always been civilised stuff in the boys' section, & they have some lovely not-at-all-tarty things in the younger girls' section, so worth a look I'd say.

(NB I don't mean he was something else before he was a boy, LOL )

WendyWeber · 27/09/2008 21:58

Oh, and try New Look too.

ingles2 · 27/09/2008 22:03

Gosh..is that a fact... Is it the same for boys?
my 8 yr old ds is just in 10/11 but it's slightly on the small side. he's 152cm and obviously takes after dh (6'5)
I'd sign a petition.

themoon66 · 27/09/2008 22:06

It's even worse if you have a boy.

Poor DS had a seriously minimal wardrobe between the ages of 12 and 16. He is now in small size Topman stuff mostly.

FairLadyRantALot · 27/09/2008 22:14

thanks cheeky...we shall look around...luckily they are building corby up so, hopefully we will be able to get older boys clothes easier...but it is a mare....boysclothes are a mare anyway....I mean, like asda the other week, they have already twice as many girls clothes isles as they have boys and then they have the audacity to put the sales girls rqnge into the boys shelfs...I mean, wtf....I don't have girls, I don't want girlsclothes making me think that there is something there for my boys only to realise it;s girls stuff...sigh

SlartyBartFast · 27/09/2008 22:15

i spose its sports shops for boys,
they need much tbh though do they?
jeans,
tshirts,
trousers

FairLadyRantALot · 27/09/2008 22:18

but you still have to get the right size aND THAT IS THE PROBLEM... to actually get somehting in his size...clothes that fit in width and lenght...at least to some extend....

georgimama · 27/09/2008 22:20

What about Tammy Girl? Or New Look 9-13 or whatever it is called? Is difficult, I was a nightmare for my mum to dress at that age, at 12 I was 5 feet 7 and a size 10 (if only that were still true, if only!!!!).

WendyWeber · 27/09/2008 22:21

SportsDirect have loads of boys stuff, up to age 13/14 - not all sports clothes either (but all casual) - so with Matalan & TKMaxx, that's 3 for boys

FairLadyRantALot · 28/09/2008 10:28

we don't have a Sportdirect here.....hmm....sigh....

fizzbuzz · 28/09/2008 11:11

Although I don'tmuch like it, La Redoute is quite good.

I clothed my 6ft 13 year old, with 28" waist (sometimes 26") and 34" leg from there.

No one else on high street stocks anything in his size.

Millions of years ago, I was childrenswear designer. 10-14 years was avey difficult age group, amd most shops gave up trying to get it right, as it often didn't sell, and that is all they are interested in.

christywhisty · 28/09/2008 19:51

DD is 11 and a skinny 5ft and I don't have many problems clothing her in Next or M&Salthough I order most of her clothes on line from Verbaudet and La Redoute.

I think boys clothes are much harder to find on the high street after 10. I get most of ds's 13 clothes again from Redoute/Verbaudet but the only get his size in Next if I order them online. Debenhams seems to have the best range of older boys clothes actually in the shops.

ruddynorah · 28/09/2008 20:01

try m&s these are trousers for age 13. age appropriate i would say?

no point doing a petition to next and asda. they can sell what they like. if anything you would write to point out that their competitors are offering x, y, z without needing you to buy a catalogue. but they'll know all that.

at m&s you can order online, free delivery over £30, or order in store if they don't have it in, free of charge.

tazmosis · 28/09/2008 21:45

And in Next and Matalan the clothes range is the same for a 3 year old and a 13 year old...how can that be right? I'd sign a petition - they have got high heeled pink sparkly shoes in childrens size 9 in Brantano - WTF??

Madsometimes · 29/09/2008 14:53

I went into Adams today to buy for my tall 8 year old (140cm). I found that age 10 is their top size. She still fits in that but will be out of it in 6 months time. I do not want my dd to be wearing adult clothes either. I will sign your petition!

(I am slightly mad about what I consider to be appropriate attire for children. I will not allow my dd to wear black. I do not like children in black, but brown and grey are fine. I know.... I'm crazy, but to me black is for grown ups).
