It was his 5th birthday today and for weeks and weeks he's been asking for a blue NintendoDS.

I asked him so many times for other ideas but that was all he wanted.

So this morning when he opened his present he was very very very happy to find a Blue DS but I just can't help thinking he's just so young.

With so many boys in the house we have so much stuff already so it was an ideal present in some ways but I think I'd rather have had a pile of tat toys for him to scatter over the house.

too late now I suppose but I don't think IBU.

So long as his time spent on it is monitered then it is fine.

Ds had one for his 5th birthday and he is allowed on it for 1 hour a day, either in one chunk or split into two lots.

He also knows that if I hear him getting angry with it, then he comes off it, and also it is the first thing that gets confiscated if he is misbehaving, so it is a great tool for getting him to do as he is told.

Both dd's also have one, but they are both very good at regulating how long they are on it, so I leave them too it.

DS will be getting one for Christmas. He's 5. Last Christmas he wanted one too, but we thought he was too young so he got a very expensive model railway instead, and DD(8) got a DS. He opened his present, said 'thankyou' in a quiet voice, then watched dd open hers. As she got out her DS his whole face changed - went red. He said 'I wanted one of those!', burst into tears and ran out the room shouting 'I hate my present, you've ruined my life' (yes - a four year old drama queen of the first order). I wanted to cry, as did DH. It spoiled my Christmas.

We got DSS at about aged 8 and he was very excited.

He would have played it all the time, but we eventually agreed only in the car on long journeys and he stuck to that with no complaint.
