to expect bloody customers not to rip open boxes to see the products, then take the pristine box behind it!!!

Good God!! I'm so pissed off by people who have to rip into the packaging just to see the item and then discard it on the shelf and take the neatly boxed item behind it!!!!

I actually watched some eejit tear a box of bottles apart just to look at it. Its in clear plastic, FFS!!! She then asked me if we had any more in stock and when i asked her what was wrong with the original one, she said "yeah its ripped and i wanted it for a present" !!!!

When i pointed out that i had seen her "inspect it", she mumbled something about, "yeah i wanted to get a closer look" . Ignoring the fact that i had loads in the back, i smiled sweetly and told her that was the last one, so she reluctantly bought it!

I'm dreading Christmas with all the "the box is ripped, can i get a discount"! If i had my way, every box would be wired to the mains and any attempt to open it would result in an electric shock

I can truly understand some people wanting to take a closer look, specially if the packaging doesnt show the item very well, but FFS is it too much to open it carefully and put it back in the box!

Sorry rant over now

Some still do the swinging thing, but we had them come in a ball and put them through a ting that looked like an old fashioned mangle. If you really want to be put off, I could tell you some real horror stories!

really this never bothered me when i worked in a shop the customer is always right if it was you pofits and your money fair enough but the customer is the one paying !!its not against the law to look at something !!or open it to have a look

serenity · 22/09/2008 11:51

I hate that phrase. Customer is not always right, quite often they are willfully ignorant and rude and totally wrong Luckily (unless it's a particularly bad friday night) that's a minority.

MsSparkle · 22/09/2008 11:58

I open things like kids tights to check the length and waist because it seems every shop has their own idea of what a size 2-3 years should be. But then i do buy the one i've opened. It's going to be opened at home anyway so i don't see why people need to dicard the one they have opened in favour of an un-opened one?

Ashantai · 22/09/2008 14:04

LOL @ serenity , dont get me started on "the customer is always right!"

And no its not against the law, but its good manners to not trash something and then take the neatly packaged one!

MsSparkle, thank you for being one of a few perfectly sensible people who take home the package they have opened

left a heap of baby stuff in a pile and strolled off

Actually, no. my biggest bugbear is people who eat chips/ greggs specials/ juicy fruit like satsumas in the shop and then handle the clothes. These are very often the people who then ask, "do you have another out the back, this one's dirty"!

helpfulornot · 23/09/2008 19:35

YANBU, either the shop should have a sample already opened, or the customer should buy the one they open themselves.

Common courtesy and decency really....

Ashantai · 24/09/2008 10:25

"very often, if I want to get something down from the top shelf, there are no staff in sight and I can't reach, I'll throw something up at it to knock it down"

Sorry but i just have visions of you doing that and about 20 boxes falling on your head and then suing the shop for it!. I'm a short arse myself so i do know where you are coming from

StarlightMcKenzie kmy favourite is pregnancy magazines on the bottom shelf! I've gone somewhere to buy one and walked back out because I can't get down there.

You do have to wonder about placement of items sometimes! I've noticed craft magazines tend to be low as well and the majority of people who buy them are older, I fainted once trying to get a magazine from a bottom shelf!
