to think that a primary school shouldn't organise evening performances in the middle of the week that go until until 7.30pm?

DD is ASLEEP by 7 every night and any later and she is hysterical (she is in Year 1). We pay for late nights for DAYS (it feels).

Surely all children are being picked up at 3.15 so why can't things for them be held at 4 pm, 5 pm etc?

completley agree

its too late, my charges are in bed asleep at that time

ex charge a few years ago 4.5 had school play in evening and she was shattered!!!

schools should reliese that the youngsters just get over tired and tearful, and that you have the aftermast the next few days

SqueakyPop · 18/09/2008 18:50

If you held performances early, then many parents wouldn't be able to attend.

Schools really can't win.

I don't work - but late afternoon things would be a complete nightmare for me- they'd still end up with a late night as we'd have to get home, cook dinner, bath, get to bed - the only difference is that the "performance" would be before the whole rigmarole rather than afterwards..

At least with something early evening I can get dinner (bath if it's bath night) etc sorted before we go out, and then it's just a case of chucking into bed when home again!

When my DDs' primary school has a late event, they are allowed to go in next day at 10am rather than 8.45. The school is open for those parents who need to dump their kids before 9.

LadyMuck · 18/09/2008 18:52

If it is just for kids then it is bizarre. Who would want it at that time? Most school staff want to get home.

AnarchyAunt · 18/09/2008 18:52

YANBU.

DD (5.6) is in bed by 6.30 on school nights. Any later and she is too tired to manage the following afternoon/evening.

I've never even come across evening performances for kids.

Ours happen during school hours and aren't really for parents to attend anyway.

FAQ · 18/09/2008 18:56

but don't you still end up with a late night if you have to cook dinner etc after something that's straight after school?

If I have something on straight after school it knocks the evening routine out of sync......(ie later bedtimes).

We had a PTA-organised event last night that finished at 8pm. After helping a bit with the clearing-up it was gone 9 by the time we got home. For infant and junior schools. Crazy. Never again, I hope!

PrettyCandles · 18/09/2008 19:04

Just to make it clear, it was an event for the children.
