To think this reaction to an accident at preschool was ott?

I'm not sure how I would be, but my DC have enough at home for me to know it's a common thing for children.

As I was waiting to speak to DS's keyworker a mum arrived to collect her DS. The manager imediately came over to her with the accident book for her to look at and sign and a letter giving advice. She explained he'd tripped over a dressing up costume and bumped his head on the toy kitchen and that it had happened only 10 minutes earlier. He seemed fine and had a small red mark on his forehead.

The mother completely flipped, picked him up and marched out shouting that he'd never be back again, she'd be complaining to ofsted etcetc, the manager seemed quite upset and tried to follow her to talk to her.

When I passed her on the way home she was sitting on a bench yelling and swearing into her mobile.

I've chatted to this woman before and she seemed really nice, I thought this was quite an over reaction.

OTT. My ds used to walk into doors and tables (a lot), his legs were always covered in bruises (so much so I became worried the school would notice and think something was wrong!).

In the space of three weeks he tripped over a tree root on the way into school and bit through his lip, got walloped on the forehead with a toy car, dragged across the playground on his face when his coat got caught on another child's shoe and to top it all off, tripped and fell headfirst through a glass panelled door (still has the harry potter scar to prove it).

Dd has been at school for two weeks and has bruised legs, scraped knees and today, a big nasty scab on her hand. It happens.

YOur DS sounds like mine, Shybaby! It's unusual for DS (nearly 2) to NOT have a bruise somewhere on his face.

ShyBaby · 18/09/2008 18:39

ds is very clumsy even now but then I have had a fair few comedy accidents myself. Im well known for them!

lou031205 · 18/09/2008 18:44

I had to sign the accident book last term because DD had walked into the first aid box & got a red mark on her forehead lol

wotulookinat · 18/09/2008 18:44

ha ha that's a good one!

SoupDragon · 18/09/2008 18:51

I've signed the accident book for BabyDragon more in the 9 months she's been at nursery than I had to for both DSs combined to date.

My favourite is when she had her head in the oven and somehow bumped her eye. The nursery manager (who I know from DSs time there) was laughing and said whichever way she worded it it sounded appalling. The report stressed it was in the home corner and not the nursery kitchen.

I feel sorry for the little boy; he's going to grow up thinking the world is a very scary place. I think we owe it to our los to be brave on their behalf.

lou I can cap your story: dd knocked two teeth out on the safety gate.

wotulookinat · 18/09/2008 19:06

that's a very good point, Cory - it's not giving him a very good message about school.

And safety gates are dangerous things! The number of times I have bruised myself on the damn things!

lou031205 · 18/09/2008 19:10

Cory - ouch! I am sporting two beautiful bruises thanks to the safety gate across our porch door, that makes our house fort knox safe from escapees!

I don't know what she will do when he starts school. My youngest DS seemed to get a letter a week about a bump on the head!

callmemitey · 18/09/2008 19:19

I assume the LO was Nursery age i.e 4? Not a 18m old at Day Care Nursery?

If so then you YANBU, if however it was a Baby then I can understand her reaction a bit more. Shouting in front of the class however was not on.

DD is just 2 and bumps herself at Nursery regularly, usually no issue however once there was no accident form despite a very cut and swollen lip and once she had to go to A&E because she had cut her head open. I did consider removing her then but tbh she is happy and the care is good despite bumps and cuts. DH does not agree with me however - I think he has PFB syndrome worse than me

Obviously a loon.
