To want DD's first sentences to be a little bit more 'lovely'

AmIWhatAndWhy · 15/09/2008 11:39

She is almost 2.

Her current favourites are
'Get off that'
'Don't do that, ever'
'That's not funny'
'I want to'

What on earth does this say about my parenting

DD's first "sentence" ( two words together actually!)

were 'bye-bye daddy" he works away mon-fri. so was a bit sad to hear!

She's got so many 2 and 3 words together now,-" okay mummy", "not now mummy", "good girl", "night night", "garden please" "lul lyou mummy" ( love you) The best one IMO
She says, 'Right, go, now mummy." one of her fav's is 'in the bin' - when I invariably find something like the keys or remote control in the kitchen bin... tonight it was a pair of shoes and her cup

Actually, all her 'the" words she actually says le, la, les, de, da,... She must have been bilingual in a former life!

We were at a family do a couple of weeks ago, there were a few speeches going on, and she got a bit bored. Got into our bag, pulled out the changing mat, went to middle of the floor, lay down shouting "Bum Bum", "bUm, bum now mummy" I don't even call it her bum, I say I'm changing your bottom etc... gawd knows where it came from!!! Every one thought it was hilarious.. I was embarrassed though!

I love hearing her trying to talk. Putting odd words together, singing, and saying the oddest, funniest things, right out of the blue!

oh, she's 19 months btw.

idontbelieveit · 15/09/2008 22:42

my dd said "friends with radox" the other day

idontbelieveit · 15/09/2008 22:43

dh "it's pissing down"
dd "no, it's mamma mirabelle"

greenandpleasant · 15/09/2008 22:45

friends' ds when asked what his mummy and daddy's names are will tell you her name normally then shout the daddy's name in a pitch-perfect impression of his mummy shouting daddy's name in exasperation and impatience. it is brilliant. the idea that someone's name could be "DAAAAVVE!!!" is perfectly normal for him!

snowleopard · 15/09/2008 22:45

It's all coming back to me now. He also said "Impeach Bush"!

But the first non-copied-off-news-24 phrase was the much lovelier "Want juicings!"

DisasterAreaIsOffToCostaRica · 15/09/2008 22:53

DD1s first sentence at not quite two was 'chuck it bin' then dragging DD2 off the sofa towards the bin.

DisasterAreaIsOffToCostaRica · 15/09/2008 22:54

and DD2s was 'mummy go choo choo' when i left them for a weekend with a mate. was so heartbroken i got off at the next stop and came home.

DforDiva · 15/09/2008 23:00

dd`s was OH GOD, followed by laugher

Ashantai · 15/09/2008 23:37

My son is currently going round saying "Asda, why pay more?" I think its time to limit his telly

And is it only my kids who end every whiny sentence with "a". As in " Its mine-a". "I dont wanna got to bed-a", "I want a drink-a"

Its getting on me tits-a!!

PavlovtheCat · 15/09/2008 23:45

Stop it - with a waggle finger
Ever! - do not ever - with a stern look (from us, usually when she goes near the cooker) .
Don't want it - food
Meggie Ged OFF, now! - telling the cat to get off something, probably her chair, followed by a push
mummy daddy bella go shopits day? - are we going to the shops today?
mummy come ooorn now. Pleeese.

NO! with a scowl! and currently followed by a rasperry!

I love this age.

stealthsquiggle · 15/09/2008 23:51

DD(23 months):

"no Mummy, stop it Mummy, s'horrible"
"no DB, silly DB, DB 'orrible"
"No don't want it"

can you spot a theme here...?

on the other hand:

"Fi Fie Fo Fum, I'm coming to tickle your tum"

and "pleeeeeeeeease Daddy" (gets results )

and her repetoire of songs (twinkle twinkle, baa baa black sheep, ring a ring a roses and Bob the Builder!)

DD (I think) used to say "no" when she meant yes and "noooooooo!" when she meant no!

BustyMcGee pmsl at yr post.
well he's right, though!

Elkat · 16/09/2008 00:26

Why is when kids have older siblings, they seem utterly incapable of learning to say anything nice?

My DD2 (almost 2), doesn't say much - but unfortunately her limited vocabulary does include...

'loser'
'Go away'
'Who are ya?' (As in the football chant)

And the usual mine / no etc etc...

She's such a lovely child.

S1ur · 16/09/2008 00:41

Ds sings

Lalah no!
Lahlah no!
duck duck bread.
park park duck.
no lelly no!
My duck. No!

dd (at then 2) sang
I have lovely balloon.
sitsa nice ballooooooooooon.
sitsa red.
sitsa nice.
sitsa a lovely ballooooooooooon.

I breed musical geniuses OBVIOUSLY

nappyaddict · 16/09/2008 01:49

ds (2.2) only has one sentence - leave me alone!

nappyaddict · 16/09/2008 01:50

(apart from songs) then we have row row row row row row row boat and baa baa black sheep wool boy lane lol.

Jeepney · 16/09/2008 09:12

DN's first sentence (I think) was

"plug it in"

and

"switch it on"

He loves all things electrical bless him

babyignoramus · 16/09/2008 13:07

Our friend's son hasn't got any sentences yet, but trys to copy everything people say. My DH said 'fuck off' in front of him (didn't realise he was there). Cue DH spending the rest of the day in terror that it would be repeated. (It wasn't)

ForeverOptimistic · 16/09/2008 13:09

Ds's first sentence was "more cake please"

The first word he read was "Costa".

That gives a very accurate of my parenting I think.

ForeverOptimistic · 16/09/2008 13:09

Accurate picture.

stealthsquiggle · 16/09/2008 13:14

StayFrosty - I had forgotten first joke - DD pulling a blue toy sheep out of a bag and singing "Baa baa blue sheep" at it before rolling around laughing at her own genius
