If someone said they were going to pop round 'after 6', how long 'after 6' would you deem is acceptable and how late would they have to be to be downright rude?

It is 7.51pm and we are still waiting.
The person in question was coming round after 6 for a cuppa. We have postponed cooking dinner and now it is nearly 8 and DH is starving and I am now a bit pissed as I have had two glasses of wine on an empty stomach (my friend doesn't drink).
Is she being rude? Or is 'after 6' just that, 'after 6', and I could still be waiting at 11?

oMG cadmum
how BIZARRE

ghosty, thbat's a bit off isn't it...yes proceed with caution

don't worry I'll be there early and panting with excitement for OUR date

Carmenere · 15/09/2008 09:40

I would guess, because I am naturally suspicious, that she had a god-awful row with her dh. Just not showing up is quite odd, you would have to be very ill indeed to completely forget about a coffee appointment you made just an hour earlier.

MrsJohnCusack · 15/09/2008 09:43

yes I think something else happened TBH

bossykate · 15/09/2008 09:44

i took a psychometric style questionnaire thingy recently which (entirely correctly ) identified that i have "high control needs".

anyway, the utter vagueness of someone "popping round some time after 6" would make my head rotate exorcist style.

hope you went ahead and ate and pretended to be in bed or out when they pitched up!

ghosty · 15/09/2008 09:45

Do you think so? I hadn't thought of that ... I sent a text later today to ask what the doctor said and was she ok? but she didn't reply to that.

oh i see now. yes odd. couldn't have a vague unreliable person like that in my life. tread carefully!

WideWebWitch · 15/09/2008 09:48

Agree, bet it's a row with her dh and also proceed with caution.
lol at bk's head exploding

Cadmum · 15/09/2008 21:17

Something just sounds off to me... I think that a cautious approach would be in order.

When my best friend says she'll be round at a certain time I expect her around1-2 hours later than that!
After 6 to me means after 6- ie she's busy until then. If someone said that to me I'd just get on with my usual stuff and accomodate her when she turned up. It's not like you'd arranged to cook her a 5 course dinner! It just sounds like she planned to go to yours then tried to get a quick nap and fell asleep. I wouldn't hold it against her.
