to think that 'so you get really rich' is not a good reason to go to university?

....MIL's card to DS, nice to wish him luck, but....this is not someone who has struggled all her life, either...and evidence from DPs life is that university does NOT make you really rich anyway!

i just want them to be wealthy . if that means university, great. dd1 has some pretty signficant learning delays and already isn't the school type, so who knows. if she's happy with a goal like modelling and marrying a footballer, great.

SmugColditz · 13/09/2008 15:58

because, ScottishMummy, a) I left school at 16 and that is when my education stopped, and only just scraped through English GCSE so my sentence structure probably isn't the best

and B) this may be the PMT talking but actually I can say what I fucking like. You aren't my editor

ScottishMummy · 13/09/2008 16:10

clearly bitty irked.correct you can lord mayor all you wish.and breathe now, let it all out

correct i am not your editor and your point is what exactly......

no one attempts censor you, you are at liberty to express your opinions any ole way, doll

SmugColditz · 13/09/2008 16:16

Damn right irked

I made my point as clearly as I was able at the time, and clarified it afterwards. You were damn rude about it and you needn't have been. It was pointless. Action had been taken, and you had a dig to make yourself feel better about God only knows what.

Doll.

ScottishMummy · 13/09/2008 16:20

i dont recall your post but mighty flattered you recall mine enough to have a red face. plenty others made quips about your prolapse womb comments too -go dig them up too,hun

SmugColditz · 13/09/2008 16:23

You were the only one who felt it necessary to comment after I had clarified my point. It's belittling and spiteful, so therefore quite memorable, yes. It's telling that you're flattered by that though.

ScottishMummy · 13/09/2008 16:25

you are just looking for agrgy bargy.i am not.don't get elevated BP with all your bellyaching, sweetie

SmugColditz · 13/09/2008 16:26

I'll get as pissed off as I please, thanks.

CountessDracula · 13/09/2008 16:32

so, moving swiftly on...

I think that it depends entirely on the person

If you are entrepreneurial type then taking 3 years out to get pissed and have fun (and study natch) will probably mean you get rich slower.

noddyholder · 13/09/2008 16:33

CD that is what i did.was a bit of an arthur daley really should have stuck with it!

FairLadyRantALot · 13/09/2008 16:34

oh dear....

Justy wondering all these people saying that going to UNiversity means you do eff all for those years....well, wish that was true for my course...but nope, not so lucky, lol....I'll be going pretty much 9am-5pm 4 days a week and one half day,m thent ehre are small matters like family to look after, than my hubby might want some attention (not that he would be desrving of course...grrr) oh and then tehre is housework...oh ea and then there is coursework...tbh...I am exhausted just thinking about it.....
so, think it depends on the course you do if there is a lot of arsing about involved.......trust me to choose one where I am expected to actually do lots

ScottishMummy · 13/09/2008 16:39

i worked hard at uni, lectures, seminars, practicals, clinical placements worked hard when i had do

also fitted in McJobs

but also got munted had fab time, meet some fab folk

noddyholder · 13/09/2008 16:39

I think the courses that lead to an actual job/career are hard work but lots of others are very general and do involve a fair amount of doing very little until yr 3 The ones with a 'proper' career at the end are a very good idea

FairLadyRantALot · 13/09/2008 16:42

noddy...which is why I chose the course...well, that and because I had thought of becoming an OT for a while

I am rather excited (as well as completely freaked out, lol)

noddyholder · 13/09/2008 16:43

good luck with it.

ScottishMummy · 13/09/2008 16:55

list of OT courses approved by cot

you can train as undergraduate of accelerated course as graduate or in-service if employer sponsors

pointydog · 13/09/2008 17:19

It can be a very good reason to go to uni. It's certainly best to go to university with a goal in mind, even if that goal changes over the course of 3 or 4 years.

FairLadyRantALot · 13/09/2008 18:49

scottish...I am starting at the UNiversty of Northampton on the 22.of September ...not long now....Northampton is apparently one of the best places for OT ....lucky I live nearish by, lol

ScottishMummy · 13/09/2008 20:03

exciting hope you enjoy, study hard, but also enjoy student life too

FairLadyRantALot · 13/09/2008 20:08

not sure how possible that will be, the student life enjoyment part...but I will enjoy the studies...
did my nursing when I was younger, and whiles in Germany you don't go to UNiversity for that, I did have the whole student life and fun experience back then So, not feeling as if I miss out to much...I hope!

QuintessentialShadow · 13/09/2008 20:30

All the really rich people I know when to university.

Many people I know who did not go to university but did other study (from what used to be Polytechnic) make good money.

Those I know who never studied anything, are in very low paid jobs.

It does not necessarily matter what level you study at or to, but how enthusiastic you are about your field. THAT is what is going to let you graduate with good results, and make him/her employable.

Doobydoo · 13/09/2008 20:33

Crikey SmugColditz..haven't read all of thread, but not sure about that.DP has a Masters in Physics and Medical Electronics and we have struggled compared to friends of his who left school and became plumbers, electricians.Really hope our ds's do something they enjoy that earns them'enough'[difficult to quantify that]and to be able to be flexible etc.Off to read rest of thread now

Ambi · 14/09/2008 19:48

Wow fairlady, it's a uni now? when I lived there it was just nene college.

FairLadyRantALot · 15/09/2008 10:48

Ambi, teh University of Northampton is quite big, yes, before the OT course was at the University it was taught, I htink, at St. Andrews...

Ne ver heard of Nene college...but then,w e only moved 3 years ago to Corby and never took much interest about UNiversities and colleges until recently
