To expect HUGE spiders NOT to move into my house when the weather turns cold!

.............here we go again, summer on it's way out, winter on it's way in and all the bloody huge, hairy spiders are marching their way to my house. I had one last night galloping its way across my carpet, which I could have almost predicted as DP away.

.......now have spider size of donkey trapped under glass mixing bowl in middle of lounge, which will stay there until DP gets home tonight!!

Then had to spend rest of evening with feet on coffee table in case it's big brother came looking for it!

Beautiful, I'm off to get some of that Dethlac. Sounds a bit like the ant killer that a company sprayed round my house years ago. I found many spiders just dead at the side of the room. I'm in a different house now so will try that.

That Phil Jupitus thing is hilarious.

Sounds like he has Spi-dar too Philpot.

The tomato stalk thing is hilarious too.

I'm in Sydney and I haven't seen a single spider yet - when do huntsmen normally come out?

Also, I was in South Carolina a couple of years ago and saw a creature that I have never seen before or since - kind of like a huge giant flying waspy/anty thing with long back legs that literally drove us inside and then flapped and knocked against the glass. Normally I am quite fascinated with most living things but this thing was monstrous.

I've just had my house sprayed against spiders and cockroaches again (Sydney), it was the best $240 I spent last year. I still do that thing of pulling down both visors to check every time I get in the car as I have heard far too many "huntsman in car" stories

Tis breeding season now apparently ozziegirly so get those chemicals out!

Ozziegirly · 19/09/2008 07:55

Aiieee runs for cover

We are on the third floor so I am hopeful that this will put off some spiders.

Have you ever seen a funnel web, sunnydelight?

mou · 19/09/2008 08:07

No spider problem but kitchen gets invaded by slugs, ew, ew ,ew. So pleasant in the middle of the night when i come down bare footed in the middle of the night..
They have a secret passage as i have filled every hole possible but our back yard is damp. Believe me spiders are a breeeze compared to these slimy invaders. my house reeks of bleach to no avail.......

ick, spiders terrify me - although I try to be rational as I dont want DD to get scared.

We have had the harvester spiders in a lot at the moment (the ones with pea shaped bodies and long skinny legs) which is unusual as they normally seem to like exterior brickwork. And since having new double glazing a couple of years ago they dont seem to be finding as many ways to get in.

I must admit I hate them on my washing line and have a special spider brush to get them off - else I'll go to do the ironing and one of the horrid things with scuttle along my board.

Must wickedly confess that I bought DD a venus fly trap and any smallish spiders and dead flies are fed to it. I do give the spiders a sporting chance (am not toatlly cruel) I just drop them on the top of the plant and if they can out run it and avoid being recaught by me they are free!

Mwah ha ha ha haa!

We have one living in the en suite. Haven't been in there for ages now. I think I might name him soon. He's quite cute in a big, hairy kinda way. Dp has blocked the gaps under the door incase he comes out in the night!

jasper · 19/09/2008 21:55

has this been mentioned before?
Works a treat

Ones in this country may not be poisonous, but they do bite. Once as a kid I accidently sat on one. Jumped into bed and jumped out again pretty quick. The bugger was in my bed. Ouch! It left a mark. I remember my mum was paranoid I might have been poisoned and kept coming to check on me.

My spider trap looks like this

jasper · 20/09/2008 22:56

lowfat the link does not work.
Can you repost?
thanks

I haven't seen a funnelweb yet Ozziegirly, other than behind the glass in Wildlife World, and I hope I never do (I've had lots of warnings to check the pool though as apparantly the buggers like to play dead in the water)!

DaphneMoon · 22/09/2008 13:54

Jaspar Just looked at the spidatrap, ughh it made me shudder. Think i would rather not know just how many are lurking. I would move out if I caught 18 in a weekend! . DP was away again last night and I had a glass bowl ready and waiting on the coffee table in the lounge, just in case!

Ebb just kill sort the one out in the en-suite rather than wait for it to come and get you
