To not want to have to find more than £200 for a school trip in january....

Ye gods, does anyone have any spare cash in January??

And to make matters worse, ds2's birthday is end of october, dh and mum are mid december and ds1's is right before xmas.

We are skint already and the idea of having to find £200 for this trip is making me feel quite sick.

I can't go and plead poverty as i am a governor and it would be utterly mortifying.

Outward bound in January? Are they completely mad?

filthymindedvixen · 06/09/2008 21:39

''Ah, learning difficulties'' what is that supposed to mean?

You are not the only one to have to fund things at this time of year. In our family, we have 3 birthdays over the Christmas season, although I am very willing to ignore mine.

We all have uniforms to buy, and general school preparedness.

And we all have to heat our houses in the middle of winter.

It is not something tho bleat on about. Either you can afford it, so you let your son go, or you can't and you don't.

SqueakyPop · 06/09/2008 21:41

I didn't bring the LD up - it means whatever you wanted it to mean.

BTW, my DD is set to go on a IOW trip in January. She doesn't want to and we are forcing her. What awful parents.

filthymindedvixen · 06/09/2008 21:41

sigh. I will find the money. My point is more the school is being unreasonable to expect us to find the money,.

my dd went on two of these trips - to exactly the same place and when she went with the school it cost £150 and when she went with youth club it cost £25..... Yet it was the same place the same food the smae adventure stuff when she got there

My dd told me that it was due to the fact the teachers went on the school trip and that bumps the price up - not sure how that works??

SuperBunny · 06/09/2008 21:45

IMO, these trips are really important for kids and it is very hard on the ones who don't go. Our PTA used to donate money to subsidise the trip and pay for those who couldn't afford. Could you do a fundraiser? I know it's a pita.

We used to go to N. Yorks for our residentials - in Feb. It's a good time to take kids away, when they won't get bitten by bugs or get sunburnt.

filthymindedvixen · 06/09/2008 21:46

Fundraiser not a bad idea, but there aren't a huge amount of kids in the year and I can't see parents with children in other years foking out to subsidise children inother years.

I do work by the way, I'm also a student. Not all parents can fund a trip like this squeakyPop. It's not a dicsussion about being a working parent or one one benefits. This school is taking the piss here, they can't expect all parents to be ablt to fing £200, especially at this time of the year.

Really, who has a 'spare' £200 at christmas??

SqueakyPop · 06/09/2008 22:03

People have money flying left, right and centre at Christmas. It's outrageous, really.

filthymindedvixen · 06/09/2008 22:06

some people.

Though I do agree.

OP posts:
AvenaLife · 06/09/2008 22:07

I agree, christmas isn't about how much money you can spend, this really annoys me. I hate it, I prefer to spend TIME with my family and ds, not my money. Money doesn't show how much you appreciate and love someone.

This trip is timed very badly for those that feel they have to spend though.

AvenaLife · 06/09/2008 22:08

I don't mean you filthy . Do you know what I mean though?

AvenaLife · 06/09/2008 22:09

Shit. That didn't come out the way I wanted it to.

filthymindedvixen · 06/09/2008 22:09

yes Avena...

I have just made all our christmas cards this year

OP posts:
AvenaLife · 06/09/2008 22:11

I've cut our budget. We're going to make christmas paper by printing it, it'll be fun! I don't like shop cards, so impersonal. I like spending time making things. My nephew's mum lends money for christmas presents, it's quite sad seeing the new year in debt so her son can have a dvd player etc. There's no need.

filthymindedvixen · 07/09/2008 07:52

I am trying to work out what to say to head on Monday...

bellavita · 07/09/2008 09:00

Our residential was £311!

twentypence · 07/09/2008 09:04

Does the school have a christmas fair that they can use to part fund this?

SoupDragon · 07/09/2008 09:10

SqueakyPop, you're talking out of your ar$e.

SqueakyPop · 07/09/2008 09:12

I seemed to do a lot of that yesterday.

compo · 07/09/2008 09:16

could you ask the grandparents to help out instead of xmas presents maybe?

bellavita · 07/09/2008 09:18

oh my earlier post makes it sound as if I was saying oh we had more to find - no that was not was I meant.

I was replying to all those on the thread that were shocked that these trips cost so much money.

FMV - it is a lot of money to find at any time, let alone just after christmas.
