To think that my Boden Rainyday Jacket might be suitable to wear in the rain?

Because it's not and I'm soggy around the neck and shoulders.

Have emailed Boden to whine pathetically.

I went through a Boden shop on Sunday (we were in nearby Weybridge for the Mercedes thingy) and I was v disappointed by the feel of many of the clothes in there.

filthymindedvixen · 02/09/2008 17:46

I love Mumsnet. I was prepared to send the kids to school naked and spend the cash on a boden rainy coat. Now I know not to bother. Will stick to my oh-so-elegant yellow fisherman's rubber thingy
I look like a fife banana but who cares?

cthea · 02/09/2008 17:54

I thought I'd pop into the shop on Sunday to have a look at the ... rainy coat. The fabric did not appear to be waterproof. I didn't like the green shade. I liked the red one but it looked awful with a brown lining. Really not matched at all. The navy was a bit plain. DH was with me and exchanging glances with someone else's DH. He later told me they met again on the stairs and had a conspiratorial look and sighed "phew! that was close". Seems the other DH also dissuaded his wife from the coat.

rolledhedgehog · 02/09/2008 18:46

I live in that town with the Boden of which you speak. I agree in reality lots of the clothes look crap on the hanger. Also there is the problem of all the mums at school wearing the same coats. Except for a the ones younger than me who say Boden is for 'older' women.....

SoupDragon · 02/09/2008 19:31

That Quba jacket may be rain proof but it's spectacularly unatttractive. I may have been damp and miserable but I did look oh so stylish

Woohoo! I can return the coat for a full refund. Which is a shame seeing as it does look nice. They will, apparently, inform their "garment technologists" of my comments.

Think that's th eo ne I got just before our holiday.
So will I get wet now on the school run?

Ronaldinhio · 02/09/2008 19:50

Jura, are you perchance partially sighted?

Ronaldinhio · 02/09/2008 19:52

Cos that jacket is so ugly it's mother couldn't love it

andiem · 02/09/2008 19:57

hate to say this but everyone was wearing those quba jackets in salcombe this summer and they are not stylish in anyway
at least my boden let the rain in coat gets me lots of compliments

WilfSell · 02/09/2008 19:57

I am waiting to buy my autumn coat till school starts tomorrow to see how many suckers well-dressed mummies turn up in the green urban mac

It will be millions won't it.

Why don't someone sensible like Berghaus make something waterproof that isn't minging?

And god don't go on about that Primark one: it is hideous.

SoupDragon · 02/09/2008 20:01

Bizarrely, I've seen only one mother in a patterned Rainday coat and then me in my plain ivory one. Shortly there'll be only the one in the patterned one unless she too has got soggy and sent it back.

Yes, Rach, I suspect you will get wet round the neck unless you only wear it in the light shower of rain you get from slightly damp angel wings wafting above your head. you will however, look nice.

littlerach · 02/09/2008 20:06

Well, looking good is equal i guess!!

snowleopard · 02/09/2008 20:20

Erm, mine's OK (but it is last year's, the fleece-lined, matt style with buttons, not the new shiny style) - wear it in the rain a lot (all summer, that is! ) and it's completely dry inside.

But of course, a la everything Boden, the arms are too short. I kept it because I love the print but I wish they would do d something about that.

My Joules rain coat has never let me down. Never tried a Boden one, it's about the only thing I haven't ordered from their Autumn catalogue though, am going to have to do some serious explaining/run and hide when the next credit card bill arrives..

spudballoo · 02/09/2008 20:29

Oh God I have to get rid of my Boden panic bought raincoat. No one told me you have to have a waterproof coat with a hood when you have a baby, so I panic bought one a few years ago...a heavy rubberised one in bright pink with red fleece liner (WTF).

It's totally waterproof but on the sweaty side and, er, vile.

I'm about to move from London to 'the country' and people are going to rightly point and stare at me.

I'm lusting after a gudronsjoden 'agua' (spelling?) one as posted a few weeks back on here. But can't decide on what colour. I know I should go black/grey but the purple/green is calling to me ...

pamelat · 02/09/2008 21:06

I love Boden but can only ever bring myself to buy the clearance stuff.

I like it as it makes me feel like a grown up!

SoupDragon · 02/09/2008 21:28

I have never bought full priced Boden. It is way over priced IMO.

Agua in green is way to go

Tho am still waiting for arrival...along with three hundred pairs of socks.

The dress arrived and was too big by far (medium - I am a 10) and shapeless and odd. Like you have to be viking shaped with massive norkers. It was almost, for want of a better word, 'Bat tit'.

as in bat wing but, you know, for the nork area.

should that be bat nork?

It was a lovely colour though. Opaque tights also goooood.

spudballoo · 03/09/2008 07:54

LOL at bat tit

Ah, was it you that posted the link? Thanks so much, I like a number of things on it.

What size have your ordered for the mac then? I'm a 10/12. Hmm. Might wait until yours has arrived and you can report on its glory and sizyness?

The tights are great colours.

FlightAttendent · 03/09/2008 10:12

I can't take any credit for it because another MNer linked to it on another thread!! They are gorgeous things aren't they?

I can;t remember which size I ordered - possibly M but will let you know as soon as I have it, whether the fit is any good etc.

I am very excited about the socks
