To want to go to Ikea for my birthday?

DH is taking the day off with the children so I can do whatever I like

But I want to go to Ikea - haven't been for over two years because DD2 is car-screaming-phobic and it's an hour's drive away

I have two mummy-friends who will also come for some birthday meatballs while we ponder the cake tins

Is this DEEPLY SAD?

Sounds fab to me, great way to spend a birthday.

morningpaper · 02/09/2008 08:56

Can't really do lunch because am taking DDs for Mummy's Birthday Tea at Pizza Express post-school

NOW THEN

what is good at Ikea - I like their three patterned tins that are plastered all over the style pages at the mo

Will they have their christmas stuff by mid-October?

No, wouldn't go for a walk ALONE, MP. I would go with DH and DS. It's just our thing.

well yes, - you said twice that you would rather a nice lunch/decadent lunch somewhere.

and indeed so what!

Gateau · 02/09/2008 09:03

Bloody hell; stop nit-picking hana. I'm only "chatting" aimlessly

morningpaper · 02/09/2008 09:04

Why spoil a nice lunch and walk with a two year old? I can do that ANY weekend

I had a pregnancy craving for Ikea "crunchy" hot dogs with DS2. I Love Ikea. We used to live pretty close to one, now it's about 45 mins drive away. Me and a bunch of Mums used to meet up for breakfast. It was only £1. Bargain... then a icecream and a bag of Daim bars on the way out.
MP... can I come with you???

Gateau · 02/09/2008 09:07

It's not SPOILING in our opinion at all! We really cherish our time as a family.
On the other hand, if it was lunch with the girls and a glass of wine, no, he wouldn't be there.

Gateau · 02/09/2008 09:08

MP, one great thing about IKEA - the Daim cake - it's really yummy!

Buda · 02/09/2008 09:18

Well MP as it will be your birthday you can do whatever you like!

Can you imagine my face the time we went to Greece and discovered when we got there that all the shops were closed as it was a religious festival? Not a happy bunny me. Not a happy bunny at all. DH was wetting himself laughing.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/09/2008 09:31

If its any consolation I like going to garden centres on my birthday.
But have somehow agreed with dd that we will go swimming instead.
dunno how that happened.

benbon · 02/09/2008 09:38

oh no it will definitely NOT involve the two year old

particularly as it will have been HER birthday THE DAY BEFORE and I will be quite suffering from over-exposure to toddlers
