Art lovers have been offered a first glimpse of the £1.5 million solid gold sculpture of supermodel Kate Moss.

The 50kg statue will go on display in the Nereid Gallery of the British Museum, where it will be surrounded by beauties such as Crouching Venus, the goddess of love.

Is it only me that thinks Kate Moss is nothing special and totally overrated? (80% of my friends are better looking). She is a terrible role model and hangs around with very dubious people.

A solid gold sculpture? Why?

I have to agree with Oliveoil Im sorry not everyone is a perfect human being and I am pretty sure Kate Moss didn't become a fanatastic model to then become a children's role model. I don't think you see that much of Kate as she is a very private celeb and all u do see is bad press.

Why is modelling a shallow profession?

You need to stop hating.

Backgammon · 28/08/2008 13:24

Crush i think she looks like catherine z-j in that pic.

Lizzylou · 28/08/2008 13:25

I don't think she is "beautiful", but she is very photogenic and obviously a professional.

francagoestohollywood · 28/08/2008 13:26

Having worked in the evil fashion world in Milan before moving to the UK yrs ago, I can def say that most of the people aren't very nice. Actually is the total lack of irony that's unnerving. Shame though, as it could be quite an interesting profession. Not morally worse than many others, I think.

Oliveoil · 28/08/2008 13:26

she DOES look like CZJ!

uncanny

now CZJ is a beauty too, although she does dress as if she is 52

MrsMattie · 28/08/2008 13:26

I didn't say that?@Oliveoil.

Maybe I did meet the wrong people! They were almost all horrible men who thought it was perfectly normal to 'cast' anorexic 18 yr olds for ads / shows by making them parade up and down in see through bodysuits that showed their jutting hip bones while they stared on stony faced making their decisions. Really unpleasant. But I digress....

I don't dislike Kate Moss personally (that would be weird, seeing as I don't know her), but I have formed a loose opinion of her based on the image she presents to the world, which is, um, vacuous and based entirely on her looks. Or am I missing something? Does she do a lot of good work for chariideeeee or summat?

2beornot2be · 28/08/2008 13:27

I am sure also that Kate Moss's clothe range go's upto size 16 and that she has never said to be beautiful you have to be a size 6 and she looks far from 14yrs old.

Well done to Kate to make so much money from her looks as much as you think it's easy being a model it's not even the most beautiful people don't cut being a model. Have you never watched America's next top model or the Britians next top model

MrsMattie · 28/08/2008 13:28

I don't 'hate'@2beornot

I just don't fawn over models.

MrsMattie · 28/08/2008 13:31

OK, well we differ in our opinions.

MrsMattie · 28/08/2008 13:31

And NO, I have never watched any programme about the next top model.

francagoestohollywood · 28/08/2008 13:32

I don't care much for models either. But among her colleagues, she is the one I favour. It must be that she looked goergeous with johnnie depp

2beornot2be · 28/08/2008 13:34

Well maybe you should watch it or give it a try America's next top model is the better one as Tyra Banks is fablous it will give you some kind of insight as to how cruelling being a model can be.

mayorquimby · 28/08/2008 13:37

why do the moral guardians of soceity insist on all celebrities being "role models" to children?
i never understood this.

MrsMattie · 28/08/2008 13:39

Oh please!@tobeornotobe

PMSL

I must leave this thread, now.

Oliveoil · 28/08/2008 13:40

to quote the great Kid Rock "be your own kids role model, leave me out of it"

(he may have added a "fuck" or two in there for effect)

mayorquimby · 28/08/2008 13:42

exactly.
i can kind of understand it with kids presenters or boy/girlbands who are exclusively aimed at children etc.
but never with rock stars or professional athletes or models.

SlapAndTickle · 28/08/2008 13:46

I like her, she seeks no publicity and finally had the sense to dump Pete D

Plus I doubt she'd ever sell out and do reality TV

TsarChasm · 28/08/2008 13:47

I don't get the role model/celebrity thing either. KM never says much about anything publicly let alone about seeing herself as a role model. She does what she's good at and keeps her thoughts to herself from what I can see.

Other people project the role model bit onto fame but but that's not her fault.

I don't have any huge feelings about her either way, but I can see her image has crystalised a 'look' that heads up the last 10yrs or so. It's bound to attract artists etc.

LouMacca · 29/08/2008 10:02

Hi. I am the OP. Posted the thread and have only just managed to get back on the PC. Thanks for all the responses.

Have to say don't think KM looks at all like CZJ, IMO a true beauty.

My point really was that I think spending £1.5million on a gold sculpture is outrageous. IMO its even more outrageous that its Kate Moss, as VT says there would be many more worthy people.

OP posts:
AbbaFan · 29/08/2008 10:11

I totally agree OP.

I have thought for YEARS that she is over-rated.

I just don't get the hype.

mother2two · 29/08/2008 13:39

You are being very reasonable. My thoughts exactly.
