To expect a grown man to not be so TOTALLY rude to me in Tescos???

I was at Tescos this morning doing the weekly shop with DS (10 months). He was as good as gold and we were almost finished the shopping when I had to go and find one last item. As I walked down the aisle the man in front of me stopped walking but I didn't realise so I accidentally bumped into him with my trolley (very slowly ie half a mile an hour or something). He then turned round while I automatically said 'oh sorry I didn't realise you'd stopped moving' and he grabbed hold of the end of my trolley and PUSHED it into me so I had to stumble back about 3 steps!!!!! He then said 'you need to SLOW DOWN' as if I was running through the feckin store or something! I was so aghast and surprised by what he'd done that all I could do was hang my mouth open but no words came out. He just walked away and I felt myself well up I was that angry and surprised so I just went to the checkout instead of going after him in case I ended up blubbing in front of him and other shoppers. I was raging inside esp as he'd done that with DS in the trolley. Lo and behold he was at the next checkout to me while I was packing up and I kept looking at him, willing him to look up so I could ask why on earth he did that to me. I think he knew I was there (given DS was blowing rasperries very loudly) but he just scarpered. He was about mid 60's with a suit and was a pompous stuck up old wanker!!!

I really wish I had said something to him now. How do grown men think they can get away with acting like that? I'm sure as hell he wouldn't have done that if it was a man pushing the trolley either. I told DH and he said the prick should be thankful he wasn't there or he'd have been decked!

Elmoandella, I did apologise immediately as I said in my post, it was automatic as I have manners. Fair enough I admit that it was me who bumped into him (wouldn't exactly say 'run' into him) but what got me was his reaction, I would have been fine with even a glare or a tut but he forcefully pushed my bloody trolley into me so I had to stumble back the way plus my DS was in the trolley!!!!! It's the sheer audacity and lack of manners from a grown man that got me!

Terrible behaviour but he may have a mental disorder

I would probably have burst into tears!

Something similar happened to us in a cafe recently. We were in Stirling in a shopping centre with escalators and, living in a rural area, this was as exciting to our dds as a theme park . They asked if they could go and ride down a floor and back up again, and when we said yes, dd2 jumped up a bit too eagerly and her chair skidded into one at the table next to us, which then bumped an old bag lady's leg. She immediately kicked the chair really hard so that it slammed into dd2's legs and brought tears to her eyes whilst yelling "that hit my leg you know!". Dd2 tried to apologise but she didn't even have the decency to look at her. I felt sorry for dd2, it was an accident and the woman was incredibly rude IMO.

You should have hit him over the head with a frozen garlic bread stick.

The man was out of order, it was an accident FGS. How dare he ram a trolley back at you!

I am just like you though OP, I never say anything back and then regret it later.

AbbaFan · 26/08/2008 19:41

P.S Cupsoftea - love that LOL

JuneBugJen · 26/08/2008 19:44

Just to defend, he may have been shocked and lated ashamed of his reaction.

I was very pissy with a man yesterday whos dog peed on my handbag
It wasnt till 2 mins later when i calmed down that i went and apologied for having a sense of humour failure.

He shouldnt have pushed you though. Git.

silvercrown · 28/08/2008 14:13

You apologised and he turned around and assaulted you. I can imagine how shocked you would be - very nasty behaviour on his part. What is it with old people anyway???? I would love to have respect for them but everyone I seem to meet/hear about seems to be screaming at us!!!

silvercrown · 28/08/2008 14:14

Perhaps you should only shop in Tesco now wearing a hoodie and smoking a fag - that'll make old gits think twice.

A bloke in tesco once rammed into the side of my trolley (with DS in) on purpose and shouted "look where you'er fcking going you stupid cnt"
Alas, for him, I was entirely the wrong person to pick on and gave him far more than I got - plus 2 huys shopping nearby came over and starting asking him what he thiught he was doing as apparently he'd been doing it all round the store to other women with children. Seems I was the only one who turned on him
