...am I being unreasonable (or at least am I alone) in finding the latest buzz-tag-line of 'Team G B' really quite irritating...?

Sorry...bursting with some degree of British pride here, but even so...

English Premier League?

GentleOtter · 19/08/2008 18:40

Team UK would have been slightly better. "Great Britain" is a pompous name.

Nagapie · 19/08/2008 18:41

Reminds me of the Gervais quip - there is no I in team, but if you look closer, there is me!!! (paraphrased of course!)..

Maybe will stop the presenters calling the athletes girls and boys.... as if!!

BecauseImWorthIt · 19/08/2008 18:46

about her, not here!

DontCallMeBaby · 19/08/2008 18:48

'British team' would be wrong, there are three people from Northern Ireland in the team. Whereas I don't think we can call ourselves Team UK, cos the IOC say we're Great Britain/GB.

LadyMuck · 19/08/2008 18:49

I was more surprised to find that the Northern Ireland competitors are part of Team GB. At least Northern Ireland is in the UK, but not GB (at least not the last time I looked at my passport).

GentleOtter · 19/08/2008 18:52

I suppose it is snappier than "The queendom of millions of people who are all squished on to an island and who suffer rivalries between themselves as individual countries"
Try writing that on a toilet wall.

FAQ wins Gold Medal in answering escapes pointless questions
Yep EPL as in 'the EPL kicks off this afternoon and yadda yadda'...
British 'football'is the least American sport ever.
Just makes me realise how 'far away' I am
(metaphorically and geographically)

FAQ · 19/08/2008 19:03

I only know that as DP watches football on any satellite/cable channel that shows it - including any American ones so have seen it there
