Me, my mum and DD went to a childrens day out the other day at a farm that it aimed towards under 5's, so everything there is catered for small kids and babies.

At the end i took my DD to change her nappy in the toilets and then took her in to the loo whilst i used it.

When i came out their was a mum with her son (no older than 4) who was screaming to go for the loo in the cubical next to me. They had the door open and his mum wouldn't let him go until she had placed single sheets of loo paper around the toilet seat !

I was really shocked by this as the toilets were very clean and well kept ! AIBU

I put paper down for dd, i realise she wont catch some deadly infection but they idea of her sitting in somone elses urine/faecal matter even if it has mostly evapourated isnt something i like that much.

Do you really find it shocking? I can only presume you have led a pretty sheltered life.

mrz · 15/08/2008 21:34

To be honest if my 4 year old was that desperate for the loo he was screaming I wouldn't be wasting time with paper. If like Orinoco daughter they couldn't sit on the seat what's wrong with "dangling" them over?

I do this too in public loos, plus i tell my DD not to touch anything when where in there. Like Littleducks the idea of someone else's dried urine just makes me heave. Even worse if the loo smells of fishy minge, then it's not just dried urine but someone else's fishy bits[vomit].

I myself hover (and aim correctly) but DD isn't tall enough. Nothing wrong with hovering, my thighs are rock hard from years of it. And no, I don't suffer from OCD, if you come to my house you'll see I'm slattern of the year. I just don't like germs or dodgy stains if I don't know where they came from.

JuneBugJen · 15/08/2008 21:48

thank you brangelina, was thinking i was the only one!

wouldn't do this in a friends house though. (except for one friend whos toddler is, shall we say, erratic when pooing)

Brangelina · 15/08/2008 21:53

No, I don't do it in other people's homes (they are usually cleaner than mine), just public loos. The worse are motorway service stations or fast food places. The other week I found a poo on the floor of the loos at our public pool. Was just glad whoever it was made it into the cublicle on time, otherwise I might have met it when coming up for air[heave].

ravenAK · 15/08/2008 21:55

Orinoco, fair enough then!

Otherwise I agree it's the hoverers who are weeing all over the chuffing seats in the first place...

I do however keep a Bounty bag mini antibac spray in my bag when dh's band are playing certain venues.

bookswapper · 15/08/2008 21:56

oh fgs its your arse not your face

mrz · 15/08/2008 21:56

Orinoco I did say in relationship to the 4 year old in the OP (if they had a similar reason) presumably your 8 year old has greater control and wouldn't be screaming for the toilet

PortBlacksandResident · 15/08/2008 22:31

I think that it would be more pleasant for me (2 DSs) if there was a small urinal in Women's loos (larger ones obv - shopping centres etc.) for small boys to use. No lifting seats for them (usually clean but sometimes OMG!). And quicker too.

Took my DNiece camping recently and having a girl opens up a whole new world of paranoia for me!

I love camping btw and have no probs with showers etc. and even loos for me but DCs - i admit i get a bit precious (who doesn't wipe seat after?!!!!!)
