to be pissed off with Tesco

for not getting my home delivery order correct again. A whole chunk of my shopping list (18 items) is missing in all. I had an annoying discussion with the driver that went like this: DRIVER - err, i think some of this order is missing ME - too right it is, any idea whats happened to it? DRIVER - err no ME - right, what happens now then? DRIVER - err I will look on my lorry again ME - ok thanks. The driver then jumps in the van and buggers off!!!

Anyway, I call Tesco and ask them where my shopping is. They tell me they will make a call to my local store and then stick me on hold for ages. She eventually comes back and says we think the rest of your shopping has been put on another van. She then offers to refund the goods but I NEED THEM, hence the reason I ordered them in the first place so then she tells me that someone will call me later today to tell me when they can deliver them.

So basically i've paid £5.99 for an incomplete order and a delivery slot that has gone from 2 hours to god knows how long and I've had to pay to speak to someone on the phone and to listen to sodding music whilst on hold. Not to mention having to deal with a twat in a van!

I also want to add that often the odd item is missing from my orders but I can cope with that. Each time that happened I had to call the helpline so I reckon that the cost of calls made to them should amount to a free weeks worth of shopping.

To add insult to injury, I have NO bread and am craving scrambled eggs on toast.

Oh, and if there's a problem, I always email rather than phone. Unless it's about the late arrival of my order.

nappyaddict · 12/08/2008 15:06

SD - who do you use?

SoupDragon · 12/08/2008 15:10

Tescos.

stealthsquiggle · 12/08/2008 15:15

Soupdragon - apropos of nothing in particular, is this you?

Leslaki · 12/08/2008 15:23

I use Tesco but only when I find extra clubcard deqls - any problems the driver usually sorts them out apart from once wen I complaind and got 1000 points as compensation - worth £10 off shopping or £40 off a holiday!! Whay hey! Best one though was wnehn they sent me 5 carrier bags of green beans and (now ex)dh accepted them saying he thought I was making soup!!!! Don't know who was worse him or the picker who read 25 individual green beans as 25 bags of beans!! Took them back, caused great hilarity (esp at soup comment) and got refund and more extra points

Lucky for me I use my points for holidays!

thefortbuilder · 12/08/2008 16:47

saltire that's outstanding. i heard of them swapping lemons for grapefruits (having a party a lemons ordered to go in drinks...) but nothing like "they're both scottish!"

Used Sainsburys just the once and had loads of missing items and didnt get a refund as had signed for the order so wont use them again.

Tried Asda a few times but dont like the substitutes as they are done by computer not by the shopper - washing tables were substituted for wotsits!! Yellow clothes are not my thing lol.

Never tried Ocado, site looks very expensive.

Have used Tescos for years and years and only had 2 problems, one delivery with a couple of items missing and once where quite a few bits missing but driver came back before I had noticed - hard to tell as we do a months shop so lots of bags. Dates and quality is always fine too.

I have heard after so many claims for missing items they close some accounts - only if they believe the items arent really missing etc.

ManxMum · 12/08/2008 17:12

I have no choice here, it;s Tesco or nothing and not had any problems with them at all. I always make sure I have an early delivery slot and only one problem with close sell by dates on yoghurts (They refunded AND replaced)

complain direct to your local store and ask to speak to the dotcom manager. Sometimes the complaints made to head office are not passed on.

notcitrus · 12/08/2008 17:21

All the internet shops seem to depend on the quality of the local teenagers who they get to pick the orders. I've had bad experiences at my last house and this one with all of them, but when Tescos started using their Hammersmith store for delivery rather than the super-posh Kensington one, it improved no end.

I now get deliveries from Tesco in Croydon and they clearly train their staff pretty well - unlike the local Sainsbury or Ocado. Shame as I prefer Sainsbury's food. They always phone to ask if they can deliver early, and not a problem if I tell them they'll have to wait.

Weegle · 12/08/2008 17:29

It all depends on your local store. And sorry to say, Tesco aren't forthcoming with refunding delivery charges or giving you "compensation" vouchers. We had a period of really terrible shopping with them which included 3 - in a row - cancelled orders because "the van has broken down" - only at that point and me losing my rag with them did they give me a £10 voucher. They are however very good at straight refunding goods that are missing/damaged in your order. You have to push for a delivery charge refund though in my experience - don't wait for them to suggest it. TELL them you expect it. But what seemed to eventually work for me was every time there was a problem I rang customer services, told them to log another complaint directly with the store. Eventually I would end up speaking to customer service reps who had heard from me before. After about 6 weeks I got an email from one of them saying that the store manager was being retrained etc. It really is down to your local store.

SoupDragon · 12/08/2008 20:33

notcitrus, the Croydon one is probably the dedicated warehouse so all the staff are doing online order picking.

picklepie555 · 12/08/2008 20:51

Flibbertyjibbet is that really true about your silbf? , that is so bad!! ....I've been getting tesco to deliver for over a year now and on the whole I've never had any problems at all, but I will be checking my orders from now on.....its all so clear now why the other week my large £13.99 bottle of Pimms went missing!! Methinks it was Pimm's oclock at the drivers house that night!!!...got a refund BTW

mashedbanana · 12/08/2008 20:53

i've used tesco recently as i've had money off codes but i do prefer asda.the items from tesco are all mixed up ie fridge in with cupboard goods.last week i had a box of broken eggs, manky lettuce, leaking milk and 2 packs of ham to be used by the next day.rang and got a refund but had to wait on the phone ages.i like the idea of doing a monthly shop for cupboard stuff and toiletries etc then doing a fresh food shop once a week might give it a go.

Roboshua · 12/08/2008 20:59

I've always found Tesco to be really good. Odd strange substitution but nothing fatal On one occasion they failed to bring the nappies I had ordered and I only had two left at 9 o'clock at night. I rang the helpline and they sent round a Tesco person within the hour in a taxi with the nappies!

Flibbertyjibbet · 13/08/2008 14:13

Picklepie, yes its true .
They go on and on about all the free food they get I'm not even as I think its stealing. He used to drive for someone else and always had stuff'off the back of lorries', they have fiddled housing and invalidity benefit for years till he got this job so now they just put false claims in for tax credits. Sil is at home with the children all day but her ex boss at a nursery lets her claim to the tax credits people that she has 2 children there 4 days a week so they get 80% of childcare they don't even effing well pay for.

Oh dear sorry for thread hijack but its a sore point! me and dp of course are working and honest and bloody skint!

Check your orders carefully all you Tesco shoppers!!!!!

picklepie555 · 14/08/2008 08:44

I'm ! What awful people. I think leeching is so low. Karma will come back to bite them on the bum one day... Will check more carefully in future, thanks for the warning.

AnnVan · 14/08/2008 09:46

Tescos - yup, the best is when there's an offer and you don't get it. DP ordered six bottles of wine, because there was a really good ofer. THey only brought five bottles, and so DP had to pay more than he would have paid for the six bottles. Also their substitutions - we once ordered a tub of onken youghurt, and instead they brought us a six pack of kiddies youghurts - why? We don't yet have children. We also ordered a rack of lamb for a special dinner - DP put down up to maximum weight, and they brought us this pathetic tiny thing that wasn't enough for a meal. grrr.

AnnVan · 14/08/2008 09:52

Having said that though -Im heavily pg, and can't walk to supermarket, DP can't carry everything back uphill by himself, so ordering is still better than walking down to Morrisons. And I find Morrisons quite expensive. I do miss living really close to Asda.

StealthPolarBear · 14/08/2008 10:00

A kilo of root ginger!!

BlingLovin · 14/08/2008 10:01

I second notcitrus on Tesco Croydon - I get from there and I agree that generally the packing etc is pretty good, with useful substitutions. But the helpline is useless. When they couldn't deliver because of some technical problem, they wouldn't prioritise me on an appropriate slot the next day because those were "already booked", so I landed up getting my order 2 days late. The fact that the non delivery was entirely their fault was irrelevant. And as they'd given me 12 hours notice to say they weren't delivering, I didn't think it was unreasonable to assume they'd booked the next available slots for people like me to redeliver. Totally ruined all my careful meal planning.
