To wonder why there are E-numbers in a baby's medicine?

I'll get in first and say it before you all do:

YY - PFB alert!

I was advised to buy it after DD immunisations and am at all the e-numbers in it. WTF? For a 2 month old?

I know Calpol is a godsend but why give an young baby strawberry flavoured goop??? You wouldnt give it sweets would you?. I dont get it.

Am asking because i think DD has started teething (17 weeks) loads of drooling and sucking on her fingers. But I am gritting my teeth (no pun intended) at the thought of giving her this.
Is the powder better? Have you all been there? Will I be merrily shoving all manner of meds down DD's throat in a year or so and laughing at my preciousness? Or did you find a decent alternative?

I square my shoulders for your stern ripostes...

YANBU - I don't know why it has to be bright pink - I can see the point of lots of sugar... a spoonful of and all that

(and would definately prefer that to artifical sweetners)

but why coloured? it's not like spagetteti has to be a decent colour to get it down them (or whatever)

snice - that is good to know.

I liked the teething powders but found after about 1 year old they lost their impact.

YANBU!! - I also was advised to try a dose of calpol for my 8wk old for the jabs (now 15 months old). I looked at the ingredients and FREAKED. But realised what other option is there if they have temp etc? I didnt give at jab time, I was lucky enough to be given some local anaesthetic from my french SIL.

I gave Calpol to her ONLY when needed, but lo and behold she now recognises the flippin' bottle and starts to go yum blooming yum like some crazed calpol junky.

Needless to say I have decided NOT to give her any more. The last time I went to visit the inlaws in France I bought a french version (sp) called efferalgan and it doesnt have the same crap in it. my MIL also told me to buy suppositories for LO cos that's what they all use.

So, now we just use the suppositories. No dodgy crap, less dosage and happy 15 month old detoxed off Calpol

I'm not a righteous mum, but it is not right to put that poison into our babies, they don't need it to look bright pink, why cant they use vanilla essence instead of strawberrty synthetic nonsense?

Sassib cos that would cost more money wouldnt it? Actually putting decent favourings into meds. It amazes how often it is the case that, the less crap is in something, the more it costs!

it was mentioned at the beginning but not all e numbers are bad. orange colouring made only from carrots has an e number for example.

My wish list has a WITH sugar, colour free paracetamol suspension on it. The stains I get on my counter top from antibiotics are shocking.
