To not expect to be treated like a skivvy by my husband because I'm on maternity leave

I don't have a problem with doing the general housecleaning/shopping/ laundry etc when I'm on ML.

But since when did I sign up to clean up after my husband, whose hands seem to stop working when he gets home from work? He leaves his dirty socks lying around, leaves plates on the work surface instead of putting them in the dishwasher and to cap it all, has left his shaving stubble in the bathroom sink.

I am going to put his socks on top of the recycling bin and leave the stubble in the sink .

No YANBU. And once your baby comes, I would expect him to be doing most of the cleaning, cooking, tidying up, washing & shopping for a couple of months too

yanbu, i feel i will be in similar situ too.

als oget peeved when my boss refers to my mat leave as 'holiday', yes cos no sleep and a baby stuck to your breast 24/7 and changing nappies constantly is a holiday!

TheSmallClanger · 05/08/2008 21:29

YANBU. Stop running round after him. Don't say anything, because that will be construed as the dreaded nagging, but don't clear up either.
He is being gross.

YANBU - do not let the rot set in now or you will regret it forever.

Grim. If you are on mat leave then guessing you're pretty far along. This time is for you to relax and do being v pregnant. That is enough of a job in itself.

Sit on the sofa watching TV and eating nice food. Tell him you are building your energy reserves for the new baby. Which is true.

Tell him you cannot bend far enough to reach lowly floor socks or dishwasher. And it is his husbandly duty to look after you at the moment, and indeed for the next year. At the very least.

I agree - just don't do it and make frequent jokes about being incapacitated because you're getting yourself in to olympic condition for the birth and that you can't POSSIBLY be doing tasks of any kind when you're on ML.

Believe me, once your baby is born you won't have time to wipe your arse, so he's going to get a bit of a shock if he doesn't start clearing up after himself now! Suggest you clean the stubble from the sink with his dirty socks and then serve them on aforementioned plate.
