I really don't think i have any choice in the matter - we're going to Italy next year with dh's parents and renting a villa with pool. DS (currently aged 4) is learning to swim but can't swim at the moment. The baby will be 9 months and possibly crawling by the time we go. I keep getting images of floating children in the pool. Am i being ridiculous? Would you take children on a villa with pool holiday? Obviously I fully intend keeping an eye on them every second of the day (how relaxing ) and i'm kind of hoping everyone will tell me it's perfectly normal to do this kind of holiday with kids and I'm worrying over nothing?

We did this when ds1 was 9 months old although only had the one child then. We basically put his travel cot up on the patio and popped him in there whenever he wasn't in our arms, crawling around while being watched or when we wanted a break. He played happily in there with his toys. Strenous threats and conditions for the 5 year old should do the trick. We have a pool and our 3 year old absolutely knows that he is not allowed anywhere near without armbands or vest. Don't let it spoil your holiday, try to spend days out if it makes it better, but just resign yourself now that you won't be laid flat out reading all week. You will have a great time though!
