Yes would have thought so but if it a smart city centre flat it might be expensive.

RubySlippers · 28/07/2008 14:02

unless you know the precise ins and outs then YABU

how do you know she has no debts?

with the huge cost of living increases recently perhaps she is finding it very tough as millions of others are

i know how much all my bills have gone up by recently

beanieb · 28/07/2008 14:02

I don't know - £16,000 is not that much - I earn just over £20,000 and I would be struggling on my own.

Sometimes supporting just yourself is harder than if you are a couple or if you live with other people.

plantsitter · 28/07/2008 14:02

Depends where she is. If she's in London, no. Also there may be other factors that you don't know about.

PerkinWarbeck · 28/07/2008 14:04

net pay on £16k = £1000 per month ish
rental on 1bed flat near me = £900 per month ish
council tax = £100 per month

that's nothing left for food!

Bumdiddley · 28/07/2008 14:05

Do tell us where she lives so I Google living costs etc there and get back to you

Take home pay on £16000 is only just over £1000. It's not a lot, depending on where she's living. Pretty much impossible in London.

posieflump · 28/07/2008 14:06

she probably hasn't told her mum though

RubySlippers · 28/07/2008 14:06

i don't tell my mum about anything like debts!

Kewcumber · 28/07/2008 14:06

she needs to get out of her one bed flat and do a flat share to cut costs. Moving back and (effectviely) being dependent on parents again is IMHO a very very last resort.

ThatBigGermanPrison · 28/07/2008 14:06

If it's a council flat I have absolutely no ympathy, they're usually less than £200 a month

plantsitter · 28/07/2008 14:08

I think YABU. Sorry. You can't possibly know what the full situation is and even if you did I'm not sure why you'd feel it was appropriate for you to comment on it.

Snaf · 28/07/2008 14:09

Well, if it's council then she probably should be able to. Why doesn't she flat-share?

Or maybe she wants to save up for a deposit on a place of her own?

claricebeansmum · 28/07/2008 14:09

If income is £1K and she spending £900 on her rental then she should have thought about going into a flat/house share or bedsit first.

Snaf · 28/07/2008 14:09

Am wondering why it's any of your business though...

does she have children..i am amazed she got a council flat

Snaf · 28/07/2008 14:14

Aaaah. Bit of a commute for me, then

Thisismynewname · 28/07/2008 14:14

Why do you care?

Snaf · 28/07/2008 14:15

Yes, I was wondering that zippi - how did a young single woman, in full-time employment with no children (and a parent she could live with instead) manage to get enough points for a council flat?

ThatBigGermanPrison · 28/07/2008 14:17

You can get a perfectly nice 2 bed house for 525 a month here in Leicestershire.

nice area too
