DS found a nearly new Nokia phone yesterday in the playground and I phoned the people to say we found the phone and could we drop it round.

They say yes we live on so and so road.

OK so we drive 15 minutes to get there and DS (4) knocks on the door, doors open, lady grabs the phone, mumbles a thank you whilst closing the door!

AIBU that she was rude? Dont expect a reward but a proper thank you would have been nice!

This actually happened to me - I lost my mobile hpone and some kind soul found it.

I went to pick it up and bought a card and small box of chocs (nice ones, thorntons) to say thank you. So, YANBU and I think she was very rude.

Janos · 27/07/2008 17:21

Oh didn't read properly - I thought you had handed it back not your DS. Even ruder in that case.

You must be proud of your DS though, what a lovely thoughtful boy

dh left his phone in a taxi. the taxi driver rang him and offered to drop it at dh's office. dh tried to give him £20 for his trouble - esp as he was driving round on his work time - and he refused it. not sure I'd offer cash to an adult non-taxi driver but I'd be very profuse with my thanks. and if a 4 year old gave it me I'd see if I could find something ot give him...we don;t have chocolate in the house much but I'd probably be able to find some stickers or some suitable thingggummy to give him

YANBU ,
i found a handbag hanging on a trolley in ASDA,took it in to customer sevices and the woman suggested i left my number in case the owner wanted to thank me....
Never heard a peep,
As you say i dont expect a reward but a thankyou would have been nice.

nooka · 27/07/2008 19:17

Perhaps she wasn't very good with children and didn't know what to do? Were you on the doorstep too?

Anyway, very nice of you, and sad that your ds didn't get more of a welcome.

my dd lost her phone a couple of months ago and i recieved a call from a man whohad found it ,we arranged to pick it up from him and dd got him a botle of wine to say thanks ,sadly the phone had been run over by a car or a bus !!!But it was very good of the man to ring.Your ds im sure would of been happy with a thankyou or even a couple of pound for his honesty.I hope he dosent think all people are so ungrateful.

Spidermama · 27/07/2008 19:26

Similar thing happened to me when I was with my sister. We found a purse, got the address from cards inside, then pushed our pushchairs for 20 minutes to her house. She was very rude and ungrateful.

My MIL would say, 'Pray for her'.

CoffeeCrazedMama · 28/07/2008 15:00

DD left her phone on a bus a few months ago and the lady who found it rang me (in names list as mum, obv) to arrange getting it back to us. She lived closer to dds school, so I asked if she could drop it there, and could she leave her contact details. We sent her flowers - its not that the phone and credit were worth vast sums, but to me its important to oil the wheels of everyone helping each other and 'doing the right thing' in our ailing society. This woman went out of her way for me, so I wanted her to know it was appreciated (and for dd to know the importance of thanking people for kindnesses).

cheesesarnie · 28/07/2008 15:02

id go pick it up and say thankyou very much.

reallyfatcow · 28/07/2008 20:15

no be unreasonable at all!!!! i did same and wasn't expecting anything as a reward although i made the girl collect it as i don't drive, she brought chocs and a few days later a thank you card came through the post. didn't return for those reasons but was so pleased at her appreciation the card has stood in my lounge for last 6 weeks, only took it down to make room for daughter's birthday cards.
some people are just annoying, ill-mannered and completely ungrateful!!!!

mamadiva · 28/07/2008 20:33

A few friends and I found a mobile phone a few years back when we were teenagers, we called the Home number and a lady came and met us, she said the phone was her sons and gave us £20 between 5 of us! We were really chuffed .

I'd be annoyed at not even a decent bit of gratitude!

pamelat · 28/07/2008 20:34

I found a mobile phone, they came to ME to collect it and bought me a box of chocolates - thought that was appropriate.

People are so rude.

Hulababy · 28/07/2008 20:36

I would thank them for their honesty. I wouldn't necessarily gie a reward though, although if there was a little 4y maybe offer a bar of chocolate or a pound coin to him.

Someone found my mum's mobile in the local pub not long after they left. They tried some numbers on her phone until they got hold of her. My dad then went to retrieve it, lots of proper thank yous said.
