To be worried that I found my husbands disposable contact lenses in my nanny's wardrobe ?

I am not sure what to make of this but am a bit concerned.
We have a live in au pair who goes to central London at weekends to stay with her friends. I was putting some washing away in her wardrobe this afternoon and noticed that poking out of a pile of t shirts was a strip of my husbands disposable contact lenses. They had been deliberately hidden. It is very odd to steal someone elses prescription contact lenses is it not ? I cant think of any other way of them getting there except her putting them there. I just dont know what to think, she is the most wonderful au pair but this is all so odd. Help.

Mousemole did you see my post? A lot less sinister but far more likely IMHO

Nighbynight · 20/07/2008 20:06

Id take them because (a) it was probably accidental so she wont notice and (b) if she did take them, it might scare her off taking more stuff.

tbh i dont think you should be going in her room let alone her wardrobe ......

windygales - I asked her ages ago if she minded me putting her washing in her wardrobe shelves and she said no. Navyeye, i think you have a good point. They could potentially be painkillers/something else.Nighbynight - I think you are right.

I can see why you might be feeling a bit odd and even wary about this, especially after your previous experience.

It really is horrible to be accused of stealing though, and no matter how you gloss it, or try to make it into a joke, you may deeply offend a valuable member of your household. And, as many people have said, it really might all be quite innocent, despite how odd it seems at the moment.

Also, if she did steal such a weird thing then maybe there is something hard going on in her life which is making her act out. It might be worthwhile just asking her if everything is ok.

If I were you I would let it go. If something else strange happens you can re-assess the situation.

Take them back - see what she says to you...

or

Ask her why they were in her cupboard - tell her your other au-pair was fired for stealing.

Just take them back. Don't say anything, just forget about it. It would be very hard to say something without sounding like you are accusing her, which will make her feel very uncomfortable working for you. And it's a strip of contact lenses, not a stash of notes/drugs you've found!
