To be utterly pissed off that ds's school friend's mother fed him a dairylea triangle for his supper?

Namechanger having a rant ok?

I have looked after her ds for the whole of the term- she was very grateful and ds was delighted that his mate came and stayed for tea once a week. She told me that her son was very fussy about food and she didn't feed him any junk- she gave me an idea of the stuff he likes to eat (although most of the time when I served something up he would ask me what it was ) But didn't seem fussy in way , shape or form.

I was a bit stuck today and she said she would collect ds from school. He has only just gone to bed now because he was so hungry he would have eaten a dried up old turd and has blitzed the contents o f the fridge. When I asked what he'd had to eat all afternoon he told me dairylea cheese FFS.

I called her to find out what else he had eaten and she confirmed that's what they both ate because she didn't have anything else in. Hw tricky is it to make a bit of toast or at least tell me he was hungry/didn't eat.

I may aswell have MUG written on my head. I feel like such a twit and that she has completely taken me for a ride.

It sounds pretty rubbish to me, I don't think you're being unreasonable at all. Does that mean her son will have only eaten a dairy lea triangle for his dinner? Is a bit odd. Are you going to say anything to her?

morningpaper · 11/07/2008 20:45

How come your child doesn't know he is allergic to dairy?

MehgaLegs · 11/07/2008 20:46

But janeite, surely if you were looking after someones child until 7 you'd assume they'd want some tea?

ihatedairyLea · 11/07/2008 20:47

I did I called her, she told me they didn't have anything else in "hahaha" in a oh silly me how forgetful am I , I wear odd shoes I am that mad kind of a way.

I asked her if that is what they were having for their supper tonight.

does seem odd to have only had a bit of cheese by seven, especially if they said they were hungry

janeite · 11/07/2008 20:48

Yes I would - I'm just saying that "starving" is an exaggeration; fortunately none of us know what it feels like to be "starving".

MehgaLegs · 11/07/2008 20:50

That's just nit picking. Colloquially the phrase 'I'm starving' is often used to express hunger, especially by children

ihatedairyLea · 11/07/2008 20:52

They like cheese- she said the boys weren't interested in her stinky Bishop and smoked cheddars. She mentioned something about making them a Cif fool for pudding as her cupboards were so unstocked. She is EVIL I tell you.

morningpaper the kid may know he's not meant to eat cheese but if all he is presented with is a bit wrapped up in silver foil what is he meant to do? I don't think this can become his fault.

UniversallyChallenged · 11/07/2008 20:53

YANBU - I would of been very annoyed too. Yes it was your choice what to feed her son, but that's what being a kind person is about. She sounds very odd to think that is enough to feed children after school

Boco · 11/07/2008 20:53

So, what did she say when you asked if that's what they were having for their supper?

janeite · 11/07/2008 20:53

I SAID I was being overly pedantic - but it is a word which I don't think we, as adults, should use so lightly.

Anyway - where's the cheese? Am hungry.

morningpaper · 11/07/2008 20:53

What is Cif? Isn't it a cleaning product?

Yes it is wrong to make children eat cleaning products, even as a treat for pudding

Guadalupe · 11/07/2008 20:54

a cif fool?

Hmm.

ihatedairyLea · 11/07/2008 20:55

She said Chateaubriand and blue cheese.

OP posts:
Guadalupe · 11/07/2008 20:55

cif was jif

Heated · 11/07/2008 20:55

In that case no wonder her ds likes coming to you for a meal. You can rectify your ds being hungry but I feel very sorry your son's friend.

When dh & I were students we used to regularly feed a 7yr old boy who's parents used to shove him out the door to go & buy his dinner.

MehgaLegs · 11/07/2008 20:56

Actually ild didn't even use the word starving. (Now who's being pedantic?)

Wallace · 11/07/2008 20:57

I've been reading this wondering why there are no posts saying "This is a wind-up, right?"

ihatedairyLea · 11/07/2008 20:58

...with a Cif jus.

OP posts:
Guadalupe · 11/07/2008 20:58

yes, the stinky bishop bit seems very suss

Lemontart · 11/07/2008 20:58

SORRY I had no idea he was intolerant to cheese and I am guessing this woman knew that. In which case, she was pretty thoughtless. You have now said it was for his tea too so y I can see why you would be pissed off.

ihatedairyLea · 11/07/2008 21:00

Thank you Lemontart.

My little cheese trianglette is very sensitive to any white food.

Bless him, I'd best get the Piriton bottle out for tomorrow.

Wallace, that's exactly what I'm thinking!
