banal, dull, uninteresting and utterly pointless? Or am I just out of touch with the way of the modern world.

No one forces you to read them, or even think about them.

I like reading my friends blogs, especially those in other countries as I get some idea of their day to day life when we haven't spoken for ages.

My friends and family read mine, but I've made mine private as I found it odd when I started getting comments from random strangers.

Tortington · 09/07/2008 12:22

i agree they are - its like a diary - online that strangers can view.

i actually find the wannabe journos more tedious than the banality of the average josephine.

they are meaningful to the people that write them, theraputic in some cases i would guess as many people find writing v. cathartic.

for entertainment purposes - certanly not - there are a gazillion other things to do on the internet that are more appealing.

i know that Rhubarb found the whole idea completely self indulgant and wasn't easy with it at all. I on the other hand don't nmind a bit of self indulgance!

Many blogs are well-written, interesting, poignant, witty, well-observed, etc... But I think many others are pretty boring and a pure navel-gazing exercise. Which is perfectly fine for a traditional diary that no one else reads but if you're putting it online and inviting others to read it then it becomes annoyingly self-indulgent.

Agree with TDWP, though, no one's forcing people to read 'em. So can't complain, really!

I can see that writing about stuff is cathartic but why does it have to be in public? Why a blog? Why not just write stuff in Word or something and save it? That's just as cathartic surely.

I only write anything on mine that I want to waffle about, normally a conversation I've had with DP that I want to expand on, but he's not here so I waffle on my blog instead.
It really is waffle though, and I know no-one reads it so doers it matter whether I write it or not?
It's not harming anyone me writing it anymore than waffling or ranting on an MN thread....

Jux mine was writtne in thinking maybe some of the transplant-community would find it. and they did. that and the youtube video as well.

Some food blogs are utterly yum ,have gorgeous pics and you do end up learning something.

I like Word of Mouth from the Guardian ( I just looove Jay Rayner).

Having said that some bloggers on there are total snobs...
