have been asked whether I can help serve teas at a meeting for new yr 3 parents and have said NO...my reasons being that ds is now in the last couple of weeks in yr 6 and throughout his years there I have helped with PTA things/school events/helped in class/afterschool club and been on 2 school bases initiatives committees, and served teas last year. I just think that it's time for some of the other parents in yrs 3,4 and 5 whose children are still in school and will be for a few more years should get off their bottoms and help out...the PTA will be left with 2 people when we leave. Or is this mean spirited - I think not though.

PTA seem to be a nightmare. I am only in my first year on the pre-school committee and have noticed a lack of help from the majority of parents. I am voluteering to be chair come the AGM in sept, I must be insane quite looking forward to the challenge actually

I don't think YABU at all for saying no. Once dd is at school (she starts reception in Jan) I won't be joing the PTA as i'll be on the pre-school committee still. I also won't help at disco's etc because my mum used to and I hated it. I was always so embarrassed. I will help before though and at the fetes/fairs but you do have to draw a line

they've sent out a letter appealing for new members today - very well written and encouraging, so really hope it brings some new blood in. At the end they thanked me too, which was nice.

we'll be doing that in sept MAS, or rather i'll be writing it! I am planning on handing it out individually(it's a pre-shcool so only 30ish parents) in the hope I can get volunteers

I doubt it, yorkshire. Those bitches lust for one thing in our Swiss private school - POWER! Therefore, please understand that I am not generalising but rather referring to my personal experience which upset me a great deal at the time.

Some people just don't have enough to do. I wish they'd come round here. I've got plenty of jobs for them. Good for you MaryAnn

YANBU.

I've been on the PTA for years (although not a frustrated, control-freak, back-stabbing, gossiping bitch), and have taken a back step this year, but blardy hell, it's hard finding new blood.
