i agree, i think people want a magic answer!

CrushWithEyeliner · 04/07/2008 18:04

I agree - I always think they must be seriously cerebrally challenged tbh

NorthernLurker · 04/07/2008 18:07

I find them quite interesting tbh - and I think the reason we see so many of them is because people naturally post what's at the top of their mind. So Mumsnet is made up of a huge ramge of stuff and if you think you might be up the duff then that's at the top of your mind and of course you will post it. As a large number of the posters here are of reproducing age - you will get a lot of posts of this nature!

Yet how many of you got involved in the InShockAndAwe thread? I hear what you are saying but some people post they barely dare hope they are pregnant, and others are looking for someone to say they can't possibly be.

Giraffescantdancethetango · 04/07/2008 18:08

I do see your point, however they perhaps cant share it with people in rl so they should be able to talk about it on here.

Its usually obvious from the title/first post what it is so easy to avoid if its not your thing.

posieflump · 04/07/2008 18:10

£4 for a preg test?
Can't get one round here for less than 9.99

NorthernLurker · 04/07/2008 18:11

Apparently you can get them at pound shops for ...a pound!

babyignoramus · 04/07/2008 18:17

I think it's worth remembering that the reason internet forums exist is precisely because people don't want to (or can't) harass their RL friends with irrational fears, sound off at them over ridiculous things that they know are probably daft and ask opinions of them purely to get an answer when they're feeling alone. Sometimes all people want is to know someone is listening (or in this case, reading!) There's no point getting annoyed about it, you can just avoid those threads if you want.

AlistairSim · 04/07/2008 18:20

I love 'em.

beaniesteve · 04/07/2008 18:24

As someone who has been trying to conceive my first for 10 months without success, I think I can safely say I have never asked 'could I be pregnant?' but I have moaned about the limbo that is a late period and a negative teat.

I try to give people a break, particularly when they are in the first month or so and they are hoping they get pregnant as soon as they come off the pill. Obviously the answer should be 'buy a test' but I can understand that some people really want to know, or get some information, but can't for whatever reason get their hands on a test.

I'm with Babyignoramous on this one and I think it's kind of uncalled for when some mumsnetters, who are happily bringing up the kids they have already conceived and given birth to, are snide to other mumsnetters who are feeling like it will never happen or worrying that they may have difficulty conceiving.

We can't know obviously.

But I think for some women who are ttc their first or even subsequent dc to ask it's fair enough if they have been trying for some time. Not all early pregnancy syptoms are the same.

I think I have been pg 4 times but I only knew that was probably the case once I'd had my 2nd succesful/confirmed pregnancy - iyswim

beaniesteve · 04/07/2008 18:42

Turnip I do understand, I know what kind of thing you mean, I can remember one specific poster who went from thread to thread and started new ones until everyone was screaming 'go and do a test' and then when that was negative 'go to the bloody doctor' and still they wouldn't.

I dunno - maybe they genuinely don't know what to do and can't take on board advice.

Is this the right place for me to ask 'why am I three days late and why have I had a negative test'?

belcantavinissima · 04/07/2008 18:44

turniphead- thats exactly the kind of situation i am talking about. oh and generally do avoid them much as i do any threads i am likely to find vaguely irritating lol

Psychomum5 · 04/07/2008 18:44

maybe this is the only place that they can voice thier thoughts, as if they do in RL, then they will get hounded and they may just not want to annouce anything yet.

and it is fun trying to guess the person anyway as they normally name change

On another TTC forum ( shhhh - bounty ) there was a 'is this a bfp' post with a picture attached and the picture was on the biggest glowiest most obvious in your face blue cross i haver ever seen.

The poster must have been a twat and an insensitive twat at that.

28 a cycles ttc for me and i have NEVER done a post like that, nor would i.
