AIBU to expect Paramedics

Dynamicnanny · 03/07/2008 18:28

Not to smoke whilst working.

I understand they work long hours, and have a stressfull job but AIBU to expect that when in uniform they don't smoke

If I ever need paramaedic support I know I won't be bothered by their smokey clothes just happy to see them but surely it's just wrong.

I won't comment on the fact they were picking up an indian

Had he broken his leg?

southeastastra · 03/07/2008 18:29

yes, do you want them to hide away in a little corner so they don't offend you.

Yes YABU in my opinion.

Of what concern is it of yours if they smoke. Presumably they were off duty/on a break. Unless you expect them in whatever short break they have to change into home clothes, go have fag/lunch/whatever and then change back into uniform? Seems a bit mean to me.

i think what they do in there break time is up to them as long as not smoking in vehicle

i worked in health care for 4 yrs and not one person knew i smoked my uniform was always fresh smelling and i always chewed gum after smoking everyone was shocked

i dont smoke now unless really drunk but am SAHM but i think they do great job and if need a ciggie then so be it they have earned one you will meet lots of people who smoke and you would never know it its unclean clothes that really stink thats been in smokey atmosphere for a long time and usually you would get changed at work abd before leaving so no way this would ahppen with a uniform anyway

bubblagirl · 03/07/2008 18:33

Am assuming the indian is takeaway.

I read Trauma Queen - an ambulance technician blog (I think he's just been doing his paramedic training but may not be fully qualified yet?). I have learned a whole new respect for them and the shit they have to put up with.

As far as I'm concerned, they are superheroes and YABVU. I wouldn't give a toss if they did a cancan in a tutu down the high street while having a food fight when they're not on a call.
