Flights booked to France with Ryanair.

5 people £29.99 each way

therefore £59.98 return per person

or £299.90 total per family

turns into £671.80 !!!!

I realize there are going to be add ons but FFS is this taking the pee pee?

Then we move on to the car hire

1 week £163.51 becomes £237.12

Why can they not just say how much it will be and cut out all the bullshit inbetween?

my recent flights to spain were £39.99 single, for me and dd.

so call it £160 for us both for a return, but it ended up being £300, which was taxes and a charge of £10 to take a suitcase.

I flew with flybe, which is form th eone and only airport nearest to me ( about an hour away). When my mum moved t spain in 2002, we were really looking forward to getting cheap flights to go out.

the cheapest time was jan when we last went in 2005, and it was snowing!!

better start saving then!

how is it a piss take?
you need them because of your situation and so are charged for them.they are not part of the standard price and are avoidable to those who want to and can avoid them.
i am able to avoid them 99% of the time and choose to do so.
therefore i pay as close as possible to the price of the ticket+tax.

and how can you complain about excess baggage when you clearly know what the baggage allowance is and what the fine is for excess baggage and such information is available to you before you even buy your ticket. they have set the terms and you have accepted them. it seems a bit rich to then complain about them if you breach them

WendyWeber · 02/07/2008 23:18

Is there any other airline whose hold baggage allowance is only 15kg? And do any of them charge anything like £12.50 for a kilo over?

WendyWeber · 02/07/2008 23:22

one 20 kg bag with easyjet costs £5 each way.

one 20kg bag with ryanair costs £70.50 each way.

won't be flying with ryanair any time soon

HermanMunster · 02/07/2008 23:25

tbh i don't know if there is and i couldn't care less.
because i tend to find the cheapest and best deals.
as i said before, you know the conditions regarding baggage before you purchase a ticket. if you do buy a ticket then you are accepting these conditions and to then complain about them just seems ludicrous to me.
if they are such a rip off and if the baggage conditions are of such importance to you,why in the world would you ever book a flight with them? why not book them with someone cheaper (as if they are that much of a rip off there must be hundreds of airlines cheaper) who allow you to bring more baggage?

WendyWeber · 02/07/2008 23:26

You are Michael O'Leary and I claim my £5

forevercleaning · 03/07/2008 07:53

Herman - do you work for Ryanair????

OK now lets cut the crap.

Take this scenario - My family and are I going on holiday,

I look at tickets advertising the flight is £29.99 each way. £299.98 for us all TOTAL. We are all checking in online, we do not insure ourselves, we take no luggage, we are happpy to spend the entire holiday in the clothes we set off in,we do not accept the priority boarding.

And yet the family still pay a further £227.90!!

So its got nothing to do with 'optional extras'. The basic price per person is £52.78 one way, which is what myself and others feel is what should be advertised.A fair enough comment don't you think?

I flew with RyanAir last year 3 times, each time for 1p. 6p came off my card for each return journey! (1p each person each way!)

kslatts · 03/07/2008 09:14

I've booked with Ryanair to go to Ireland in October, the flights were advertised as 1p and that is the amount I paid as we didn't opt for any extra's. 8p for a family of four return.

forevercleaning · 03/07/2008 10:38

well that's just how it should be! As advertised. Shame they don't do that all the time.

HermanMunster · 03/07/2008 11:54

no of course i don't work for ryan air. i'm just a regular traveller with them and find them great. when i can find cheaper deals elsewhere i obviously take them but this is not often.
my point was that apart from the taxes there are very little hidden extras. and it is not as though you agree to buy the tickets before they allow you to know how much the ticket will be when all the taxes are tacked on.
so when i'm booking i see the basic price and then i can check how much it will be including taxes.really can't see the problem with that, if i feel the ticket is good value i buy it.if it looks like "a complete rip off" to quote the thread title i don't.

i have flown to many great european cities for around 60 euro return in the last few years whcih is a damn site cheaper than even the railway service.
oh and i love michael o leary

kslatts · 03/07/2008 12:26

I agree that they should advertise the total price, I did manage to find the really cheap flights, but it did take me a long time searching different dates and routes and then I had to untick all the boxes for extra's that are pre-set to Yes. I think another reason mine went through as 1p is because I paid using my electron card.

ChippyMinton · 03/07/2008 17:07

kslatts - do ryanair sometimes pay the taxes and charges? Cheapest I've managed was about £90 for 5 returns to dublin. Must try harder
Another trick is to check the prices as single fares, and pay in euro (on an appropriate debit card of course) for the return flight. Also you can mix and match airlines of course, and buy two singles.
