Sorry for the rag link -

TDLR - celeb only known as PPT has been accused of sexual misconduct with over 30 witnesses giving accounts to police that the person in question abused their power as a celeb to abuse young women.

Celeb in question has said that if the stories are published, they will likely end their own life.

A judge this afternoon will rule on whether publishing the accusations will breach his human rights.

Is it likely that even if it does get sealed, public speculation will likely “out” him anyway?

AMIBU - Yes - innocent until proven guilty.
IAMNBU - It’s in the public interest to publish.

So you are accused of a serious crime but if you play the suicide card you will be let off.
Yeah right ! 🙄

So would you apply that to all people and all crimes? No reporting of any names until a conviction? And no reporting of any allegations of any wrongdoing at all until it’s been investigated by the police, charged, and convicted?

So no reporting of Prince Andrew, for example - it’s all allegations, he could have done nothing wrong (I’m not saying I believe that, it’s just the conclusion of saying allegations can be false and everything must be tested in court and not done by the media)

Once they are charged they can be named.
Then the evidence can be brought in front of a court, rather than going to the press and causing a "trial by media"

That’s what I thought - surely then every single person accused of anything will suggest that they are suicidal.

Mr Mountbatten-Windsor clearly missed a trick.

It’s been ruled he can be named subject to appeal

Walliams has lost the case for the injunction, but staying “anonymous” until appeal heard.

Sweetesttabboo · Today 14:45

I wish he’d just face the actions of his consequences rather playing the pity card. Surely he knows his reputation is in tatters regardless of whether any criminal investigation happens or not.

northernbarbie · Today 14:51

You look a lot more guilty taking out an injunction to stop a story than just accepting it will be published and denying it all…

Just read that Alton Towers have closed down the ‘David Walliams World’ attraction. 😬

Maybe there needs to be a mass collection of all his utterly shit books for Bonfire night too.

Tweeply · Today 14:59

Threatening suicide is an abusers tactic anyway isn't it!?

Banjas · Today 15:04

I have the DM app.
I checked to see if he got a mention.
Down a bit from the top.
He did.
They’re subtle like that 😉

@katzrooldogzdrool Very good point! Bet he’s sweating (or not).

@Banjas I just read it and can’t see it anywhere!!!

Wonder if they “accidentally” published his name and then redacted it.

How long until his face is all over the papers.

I don’t think they can set a legal precedent that someone can threaten suicide and allegations will be blocked from being reported. I just think it’s such a huge legal precedent to set that I can’t see how it’s possible to agree to it.

This. I've heard lawyers & journalists I rate for being sensible & knowledgeable say as much.

No wrong.
The police would still charge and the person prosecuted. As normal.
Media wouldn't be able to publish hearsay, rumours and allegations until the person was charged. They fight this not because of public interest, but because hearsay, rumours and allegations sell papers
