Tradesman left item behind

I'd a tradesman working in my house for a week. On the last day I'd an appointment so left him to it. When I returned, I saw he'd forgotten a tool. I looked it up and it's valued about £250. I texted him straight away, he read it but no reply still after 12 days. We got on very well, chatted a lot, he volunteered a lot about his life and asked about mine, so no issues there. The job is also paid for and finished. It was sitting on the kitchen table. I'm not going to text again, I've done it once, but I'll keep it safe. AIBU not to contact again?

Tradesmen always seem to leave something! The guys who sanded our floor left this incredibly long tube that attaches to the sanding machines - I kept it for ages for them, then eventually took it to the dump.
Decorators left a folding bench and a step ladder that I still have.
The electrician the other day left a bag and a folder - but he did come back for them the same day.
Sometimes I wonder how much money these guys waste on stuff left on jobs...or whether it's just not worth their time coming back for them.

There are trades that buy new stuff for every job, but that's at the cheaper end of the scale. So paint brushes, paint kettles, buckets etc. Though I did have one not-young decorator who'd had one particular brush since his apprenticeship.

Things like drill bits are consumables, they do wear out and need replacing so maybe the guy who left the very big drill bit behind was effectively junking it on purpose? And leaving you to get rid of it.
