I remember when I was pg with DD but not showing. I was prone to fainting and started to feel iffy on the bus. I hissed at the back row "I need to sit down. Now. Or I'll faint on you"

they shifted PDQ

I think it's crap. I have had people blatantly looking at me when heavily pg (and I'm pretty slim normally so it wasn't looking in an 'is she fat or pg?' way) and not offering a seat.

I agree though that it's worth asking. I never had to travel far enough standing up to bother but would have done if I needed it.

Now I would always offer a seat to a pg lady

yes of course someone should have offered you a seat - although I am always surprised when, on crowded buses, people with very young children tell their children to sit in vacant seats but continue to stand themselves (instead of taking a child on their lap).
People are always offering me seats these days, benefit of having grey hair (I don't think I look pregnant and am visibly beyond childbearing age!) and I always accept very gratefully unless I really am getting off at the next stop. Rude not to take a seat when offered, I think, as it can then be embarrassing for the offerer.
