If you had an iron infusion did it make a positive difference?

Just that really. I’m due to have one and quite anxious. Fertitin is 14

My infusions are the difference between getting out of breath going up the stairs and running 10k’s

What's your ferritin and haemoglobin?

Before the infusion I think my haemoglobin was between 73 and crept up to 93 after months of taking oral iron and then I had the infusion.

I can’t remember my ferritin numbers (maybe in the teens?) but they are still very low and I may get another infusion according to the last letter I had from haematology.

Elderly relative was called and sent straight to A&E following a blood test and they did an infusion in A&E! Relative went back a week later for a 2nd infusion.

They said they didn't notice a difference after the 1st infusion but within a few days of the 2nd they were like a new person.

I got so bad before I finally got it approved that it took 3 series over many months to finally get me back to normal, but each one did help.

I was very scared about the first one and so were my doctors given my history of allergic reactions. They took extra precautions with iv antihistamines for the first. That isn’t the standard.

I did have a small reaction in the infusion center for the third but suspect it was to another patient, not the iron. It was small so we just dosed with oral antihistamines and they let me go home.

I have my life back now. I got to the point that I was having heart palpitations and was struggling to walk across a room. That was only about 1 week after a particularly heinous period, but I had spent a year begging for help. They finally pushed it through as an emergency approval when it got dangerously bad.

It has the reputation of being the Rolls Royce of iron boosting treatments - highly effective but expensive to prescribe and thus not immediately available without quite severe depletion.

So you are probably very depleted and will feel a good deal better in due course.

Good luck - hopefully you will be all energised and zippy soon.
