To think that mismatched Christmas serveware is acceptable?

Over the past few years, I have started picking up random bits of Christmas themed serveware for Christmas buffets etc. We’ve accumulated quite a few bits now and DH thinks it looks messy as none of it matches (it’s all a mixture of green, red, gold and cream but from different sets.

I like the fact that it doesn’t match (it reminds me of my grandma’s stuff as a child!). What would you think?

He's welcome to save up his pennies and splurge it on some Royal Crown Derby 😂

I like mismatched stuff. Tells a story. We don't really have space for true party stuff so little snacks will end up in soy sauce dipping bowls and the like. When my husband's family came round recently, I didn't have enough child safe plates, so folks were eating off small wooden cutting boards. It actually looked pretty bougie

Sorry but I would not have eaten that! Even if you had washed out the dog bowls in boiling water.

I suspect they were new bowls she bought thinking the were Xmas serving dishes that were actually dog bowls. But just new bowls not us we s knes

Is no-one else insatiably curious about the back story behind @IamEarthymama’s dog bowls?

Tell him he's more than welcome to take over the task if yours isn't good enough

It doesn't matter, only "influencers" need everything to look perfect

It sounds lovely. Charming.
I have Christmas serveware, while it does match, none of the patterns on the plates etc., replicate each other. It's become a lovely Christmas tradition for the children to look to see who gets the snow-rabbit, who gets the chimney and stocking. It's this design and I love it. Just makes me happy to unpack it on December 1st and use until the Christmas tree comes down on January 6th. A little bit of joy in every meal, every snack, every cup of tea.

That would be very funny, I would definitely eat out of them in that case 😄

Blimey, the serving dishes we use to serve Christmas dinner are just, drumroll please, the dishes we use all year round 😂
any get together hosted around December time at ours features the same year round serving dishes.
Do people really care about this sort of stuff? Besides OPs dh of course…

Fizbosshoes · Yesterday 23:10

If its serving dishes i dont think we have any at all that match! (We use the same random ones at christmas we do all year) Ive never even thought about it before

EmeraldShamrock000 · Yesterday 23:13

It depends on the home. Never in my two sister’s homes, definitely in mine.
It is a great idea. I might started doing it. We’re a family of 4. We only have 6 dinner plates and 6 dining plates so I could do with the extras.

CinnamonJellyBeans · Yesterday 23:21

Sounds good to me. Everyone will have their own dish/plate that is part of the tradition.

gullgal · Yesterday 23:23

I'm not even sure what serveware is. That's how little I care about everything matching. I'm sure it looks cheerful and festive

That's really pretty, I bet the table looks beautiful

Who does he think he needs to impress over Xmas Dinner???

Flatandhappy · Today 00:44

I’ve managed to chip a ridiculous number of plates and bowls recently so I would struggle to put anything matching on the table, Christmas or not. An assortment in the same kind of colours sounds lovely to me (and you have reminded me that I really need to go buy some new stuff).

First world problems…

Your collection cannot be complete until you have a cabbage leaf serving bowl.

MadMAGA · Today 00:56

Unless you're a hotel, it really doesn't matter. It's a family celebration, not a state banquet.

HeddaGarbled · Today 01:06

I think he probably just doesn’t like “Christmas serveware” (and I wouldn’t diss him for that) but could tolerate it if it matched. It’s not a choice between that and Royal Doulton. You could just use normal nice dishes.

Whst is it called then? I don’t mean a standard plate set, but things like serving platters and little nibble bowls etc.

Dishes. Crockery if you absolutely must.
