Feel like a stranger in my home city

So I moved from Birmingham years ago. Visited the centre today & felt shocked. It’s always been vibrant & multicultural, but today it felt really poor, scruffy & run down. As a white person, I felt in the significant minority & it seemed that white, British culture had disappeared. Islamic culture was overwhelmingly the majority. Now before anyone accuses me of racism, I absolutely am not racist. But I am shocked that the UKs second city is so far away from being culturally British. Will this change continue & if so, will white British culture be welcome here at all?

And “Islamic culture” is not remotely the majority in the city of Birmingham. What a crazy thing to assert!

What is white culture?

The trend probably will continue due to a mixture of immigration and people from ethnic minorities having a higher birth rate. Also there will be cases of "white flight" - I'm assuming you yourself are an example of this.

I think this is a point to add as well. “White flight” contributes just as much to changing demographic profile of an area.

And for anyone questioning British or white culture, there is such a thing. It's like saying ' I don't see colour'. Cultures exist and we won't get better at dealing with these things until we stop pretending they don't.

But OP hasn’t really explained how “white British culture” has vanished or how “Islamic culture is the majority”.

What does that even mean or look like?

I’ve moved from Birmingham to another large city. The change in my new city has been far less stark & feels more integrated.
White British culture means exactly that to me - our traditions & history - surely I’m not awful to feel sad that those things no longer feel prominent in such a historically important industrial city?

Why do you mean “white British culture is no longer prominent” though?

What are you on about 'white flight', she may have moved away for work or family. She also didn't say anything racist, she mentioned culture and religion. These things make a bigger difference than skin colour as they are a set of beliefs and practices that people don't always share. They can create barriers and prevent people from mixing.

I mean if she is basing it simply on looking around it seems like she is using culture / religion as a proxy for race which many do.

Rings of Robert Jenrick when he said he "didn't see another white face" in Birmingham.

He said Handsworth and when it was fact checked apparently he wasn’t even in Handsworth!

He's not the sharpest crayon in the cutlery drawer. Angry at levels of immigration when he himself was immigration minister.

But he knows his new voter set aren’t bright enough to call him out on that.

What specific traditions are you referring to? Christmas? There will, no doubt, be Christmas light display in Brum shortly.
What else? What other traditions?
What history are you not seeing that you were before? You talk about industrialism but that's long in the past and you are unlikely to see vast number of factory workers in their overalls on the streets anywhere in the developed world.
I go to the city I grew up in (Continental Europe) once a year and it changes every time. It is not the city I remember with buildings, transport networks, town squares undergoing some form of transformation on a regular basis. And this has absolutely zero to do with multiculturalism as the country is overwhelmingly white. There is still a vast change and it is sad to see even though not every change is negative. Such is the nature of nostalgia.
I am not sure why you chose to blame Islam for that.
