Feeling miserable following surgery - need cheering up

Post in AIBU for traffic but feeling very miserable day three after surgery. Had endometriosis excision on Monday and recovery is so much tougher than I expected. On top of that I have a rare complication in my throat following a drug reaction that is just making the nausea so much worse. :( when will it end :( please cheer me up with your happy news.

Hugs!

I can sympathise. I've had two rounds of endo surgery, and had a hysterectomy 6 months ago.

You're in the very worst bit now - from day 4/5 you'll start feeling much better.

Try gentle walking around the house now and then and lots and lots of herbal teas.

smileyplant · 21/10/2026 19:20

@WeirdlyNorm thank you - I feel so teary and weepy which is not like me at all. My poor husband has just cancelled a lot of meetings so he can be at home to help me tomorrow and I feel awful and such a burden!

Once you pass over the initial hump, you won't know yourself.

smileyplant · 21/10/2026 19:39

@XenaSharples thank you - just feel impossible at the moment!

Oh bless you. Sending you hugs. An anaesthetic can make you feel emotional, and you’ve had surgery, you need to just give yourself a break, you had an op on monday(a massively stressful experience) it’s only Wednesday, try to get some rest, as someone else said, walk around your house, drink some herbal teas, step outside your door, take some big breaths of fresh air, tell people you live with that you’re feeling fragile, you’ll feel better in a couple of days, but continue to be kind to yourself please. X

smileyplant · 21/10/2026 19:45

@Gratefulforlife66 I'm normally the organiser, helper, sorter etc for everyone in the family so I think everyone is freaked out at me be totally taken out!

TheChosenTwo · 21/10/2026 19:52

Ah sorry op, I had a load of gynae surgery a few months back, remember having the sorest throat for a few days because of tube and just generally felt grotty but by about day 5 I had sort of picked up a bit.
Not sure I can bring you any fun cheery or silly news because I’ve had quite a stressful day at work unfortunately 😂😂
still, I can tell you that I’m really looking forward to watching traitors tomorrow night (are you watching?) and it’s my job to provide traitors snacks which means me perusing M&S during my lunch break and spending a small fortune, I’ll feel sad when it’s over because I quite enjoy a good excuse to spaff a load of money on frivolous and entirely unnecessary things.

TheChosenTwo · 21/10/2026 19:53

Sorry, meant to say I really hope you feel better soon 💐
chinwag away on here, there’s always someone to chat to.

Gratefulforlife66 · 21/10/2026 19:53

Thank goodness your husband sounds like a decent man and is obviously caring, I’m also the organiser, planner, doer, and on the odd occasion I’ve slipped off my perch for whatever reason, it’s a shock for for family! However, you deserve to be looked after too. Hence why I said, let them know how are feeling. You’ll be back to being the organiser etc before you know it, take time to get yourself well. I know how you feel, I’ve been in the very same situation. As I said, be kind to yourself 😘

smileyplant · 21/10/2026 20:23

@TheChosenTwo thank you! Do you know what I never normally have enough time to watch it but I tried to watch an episode yesterday and it seemed quite good! I'm going try again tomorrow hoping I can focus a bit better. Absolutely nothing beats M&S picky bits for snacks!!!! Hope you're getting something good!

Snuggle on the couch and scroll for a bit.

I had this surgery and it really does take it out of you. I had a horrible reaction coming round from the anaesthesia and was surprised how painful and uncomfortable I felt. Also remember feeling very anxious for quite a few days afterwards. I booked a week off work but ended up taking two. I rewatched the Walton’s and Anne of Green Gables which was quite comforting!

Ah yay!!! Get on board, it’s trashy telly but quite entertaining, you don’t have to really concentrate much.
When I was recovering from surgery I watched all manner of properly shit telly inbetween nodding off and being brought tablets and food!
And I can relate - my kids (2 adults and 1 teen) seemed a bit shaken by the fact that usually busy and bustling mum was wiped off her feet for a bit, they all took turns in getting into bed with me and hanging out, teen brought some board games through that were easy (guess who was a blast from the past 😂). Dh was great but was back to work the day after but he’s self employed and was in and out constantly - he also knew the teen and at least one grown up dc would be about so I think everyone felt more comfortable.
With proper resting you’ll recover better, take it easy.
And come and join us on the traitors thread if you catch up, you don’t want any spoilers beforehand!

Awww your children sound lovely. I have a 5 year old bless him so he's a bit worried by it all. I will definitely pop over to the thread when I've caught up!

Sounds really rough, I hope you start to feel better soon

My little boy is 6, profoundly disabled, non verbal but I think he's beginning to be able to indicate 'yes'. He's never had a yes/no response and it's something I have been desperate for him to have. He has a muscle condition that makes his muscles spasm and lock rigid. Tonight, when he was in pain I asked him if his legs hurt and he made a very deliberate sound. I asked if his tummy hurt and he stayed quiet. I asked if he wanted paracetamol and he made the deliberate sound again. I asked if his arms hurt and he stayed quiet. This is the second night he's done this and, if it is a deliberate yes, it's going to be a game changer for him.

Catza · 21/10/2026 22:57

Third day is always the worst after every surgery. It should improve dramatically from here on.
I had maxfac surgery and thought I sailed through it in the first two days, then on day three I thought I was going to die. Slept, got up on day four and felt well enough (and bored enough) to clean the fridge which I don't even dare to think about on a regular Thursday.
Ex had a hip surgery and on day three I had to call his GP to ask if there is anything they can give him for the pain as he was in tears and nearly delirious. He woke up the next day and went out on his crutches to take a dog for a walk.
Just get some sleep. It will all feel like a distant memory soon.

I think it's understandable to feel panicky. If you've just had surgery for endometriosis chances are you weren't feeling tip top for a while anyway and the physical and emotional stress of it all is just working it's way out of your body. I think your body is now just telling you loudly to treat yourself with kids gloves whilst you recover.

Oh how amazing! I really hope this is the case and he is finding his own special way of communicating with you.

Honestly this sounds like a dream - I will happily clean the fridge tomorrow if I could feel well enough to do so!!!

I’ve had surgery for endo twice. You should feel much better from the treatment once the short term problems wear off - hope it has worked brilliantly for you!

smileyplant · 21/10/2026 23:20

@Comtesse Thank you - I guess only time will tell. It was removed exactly where I said I had pain (pouch of Douglas and right ovary) so at least I know wasn't imagining it!!!
