Thought I'd bring your attention to this.

Channel 4 to recreate Nazi conditions for disabled people in new TV experiment

Provocative new show explores whether members of the public will spot Nazi ideology today if it’s ‘repackaged and made to appear acceptable’

The Earths rotation has sped up lately.

It really depends on which members of the public they have recruited for this tour. I’d have to understand if they have a broad selection of demographics, or just one specific group of people who are more prone to that sort of ideology, or the complete opposite.

I thought it was really good. I suspect it's gone right over a lot of peoples heads though. The faces the teacher bloke pulled were epic! I was pulling similar myself just watching.

Agree. Though the most thought provoking thing was not the attitudes towards disabled people, but how easily the majority believed the propaganda unquestioningly and thought something abhorrent was actually good. Now THAT’S frightening.

It's amusing, in a grim way, how many people think all wheelchair users can just get out and walk. Such users need to be careful how they respond in such cases, as there are those who will get quite shirty and bang on about "not being fooled".

Obviously the best solution is to ensure wheelchair users don't go out in public. Fans of the 1970s will remember how much better life was when they were kept out of sight.

(For the benefit of the dim when reporting the above,. you can let MNHQ know it was my perverse sense of humour being deployed to emphasise modern social injustice),

Generally, Reform MPs are pretty thick - I suspect they meant internment camps, but then who knows with them...

I admit, if I wanted a scintillating discussion on semantics, history, and social change, I probably wouldn't pop along to my local Reform meeting.

Just catching up with it. Agree it's well done, whether it will hit the right spot and make people stop and think is another matter. I sincerely hope so!

Teenagerantruns · 22/10/2026 15:25

I thought it was quiet interesting, l could see why some of the visitors thought it was good idea, all the actors were convincing.

ThingsAreNotWhatTheyWere · 22/10/2026 15:45

Yay to the people who did see through it and question what was being done!

It won't be comparable at all so I don't really understand the point.

If people tour a facility and see good practice they will obviously say that it might be a provision that could benefit the people who choose to use the facilities. And then what? They'll be told that it's what the Nazis planned and be surprised?

They didn’t see good practice though. They were TOLD they were seeing good practice, and most accepted that despite evidence to the contrary in front of them.

I think one of the points was that at least some of the people hadn't chosen to use the facilities. The choice was made for them by other people to save money.

I have just started watching this now and i don't think it seems crass or sensationalist. I have a brother with downs syndrome and also work with people with disabilities...for years it has felt like people with disabilities are not seen as worthy of having as good a quality of life as those who are well abled. I dont know if any of you who have a disability or have a relative with a disability feel the same?
This is a stark reminder that this has happened before and it could happen again.
I was interested to read that others on this thread have negative thoughts about assisted dying...as its exactly what I thought about when I started watching this show.its a scary thought.

Will watch the rest of the show then see what I think.its one of those things that I don't want to watch but feel like I really should watch

Agree with a lot of what you have said. I'm also against assisted dying due to the problem of potential "mission creep" and the effect it could have on disabled people.

ThingsAreNotWhatTheyWere · 22/10/2026 20:58

Judging by the thread currently running about motability and didabled people, I don't think enough people have watched this yet... 😐

Bobbieiris · 22/10/2026 21:10

Well I've almost finished now and sadly doesn't shock me. And it is a reality already for some with mental illness or learning disability....those who are in assessment and treatment units etc. The talk about sterilisation and euthanasia were not challenged as much as I thought they would be. I am opposed to assisted dying being legalised for exactly these reasons...I think too many would be coerced into it for financial reasons. I think it was a really thought provoking and important programme actually.

FedUpCelery · 22/10/2026 21:28

I was impressed with the 3 women who were able to challenge what was going on while being sensitive to the disabled people who were present.

I just had a look at it. MNHQ should be ashamed to host such disgusting ableism on the site.

WallaceinAnderland · 22/10/2026 23:05

@titchy @voyagevoyaaaage that's my point though. Is it just to prove that people were fooled under a different regime and they can still be fooled now? That's not news surely?

I think that was one of their points, yes. That many seemingly decent people were happy to go along with something awful for disabled people just because it saves a lot of money, based on no more than a little light propaganda. And that in the past, this path ultimately lead to "mercy killings" via warehousing the disabled and making them do menial work for pocket money.

Why? They are only reflecting society, not trying to change it.

And society really doesn't "do" disability.

(Let's see if this post stands 🤔
