Supermarket snitching

I’m sitting in the car in the supermarket while DH has taken the kids in. There were no family spaces left so we are parked opposite, NBD.

I’m supposed to be doing work but I’ve been distracted by the fancy sports car which has just pulled in opposite (into a now vacant family space) and thr smartly dressed man who has stepped out and walked into the shop, notably lacking in children.

I’m sorely tempted to write a note “no kids!” stick it to his windshield and hide behind my dashboard to see his reaction when he comes back. But then also v aware I should mind my own business, people have been stabbed for less yada yada.

What would you do (or like to do if you were more brave!)

YABU: get nose back into work.
YANBU: write the note!

Sounds like you didnt need the space tbf op.

Anyway, I imagine his reaction would be similar to mine - take note off, put in pocket, drive out of my nice giant space and go home.

no I haven’t. I had a child with me, and I may have needed to get out. They’re called family spaces.

i guess you would’ve written a note

Absolute twaddle. Your DH was dashing in.

You were 100% misusing the space!

No but he needed to get in and out sharpish, plus I might have had to take him in to change him!!

So that’s ok then, because your DH needed to rush in sharpish!

so anyone who needs to dash in can use the spaces then?

You have no idea 😩😅

I think we have a fair idea.

Passaggressfedup · 18/10/2026 18:06

Where are you that shops are so busy just before 4pm when shops are closing in 15mbs/5mns? Sounds they are stopping close because they want to get there quickly before it closes.

It's not like it's peak time.

As a new parent this makes me furious. After three occasions where I have (politely) pointed out to people that they’re in a parent and child space and had three aggressive reactions I have now had to actively tell myself that I have to let it go.
There are some selfish fuckers out there but you can’t take on every one of them.
It does boil my blood when I can’t get a parent and child space and then have to try and squeeze the pushchair and my baby out of the car in a standard space but it’s not worth me going away from shopping trips upset every time because some asshole has told me to fuck off.

Would be nice if all parking spaces were as wide as PC spaces.
I imagine the reason people are using these spaces when they dont have DC is because they are closer to the doors of the shop or they run much less risk of getting their car damaged.
If all spaces were the same size, we could do away with PC spaces completely.

VanillaImpulse · 18/10/2026 18:18

Judging by a thread last week, you will get absolutely annihilated for even suggesting doing such a thing. Mind blowing for a parent forum but there you go!

It wasn’t for his own purposes, which I already said

Because the child needed a pair of trousers in an emergency…

As we were leaving the supermarket one day a young man raced into the disabled space opposite us, and stated getting out without displaying blue badge. My husbavd out if the car and yelled 'oi, that's a disabled space, go park somewhere else you lazy c*' the guy got straight back in his car and raced away. He was never this militant til i got my blue badge.

Dominoeffecter · 18/10/2026 20:23

They are a privilege not a right and not protected by law so I’d just leave it.

Yanbu for being annoyed by this, I once told a man off for taking a family space when he had no kids with him.

In hindsight I should have said "not very good at parking in a narrow space are we? You can get extra lessons for that".

I know many mumsnetters will say "get a life" etc but they are quite possibly men who can't park either.

IKR? My friend told me my parking was better than her husband's. I said I had to get really good at parking to get my big baby bump / baby/toddler out of normal parking spaces

That’s fair enough and totally different, having kids is a choice not a disability, good on
your husband

PeloMom · 18/10/2026 20:26

You can write all the notes you want; doesn't sound like someone who cares.

outerspacepotato · 18/10/2026 20:29

That is some petty ass bullshit. Are you high? Why would you care where someone parked in the supermarket parking lot?

You realize his fancy car has cameras and possibly an alarm when it's messed with.

Is it a Maybach?

Don't go looking for trouble. Save your energy for trouble that finds you.
