As part of my AW personality, i've got the 90s music on, i'm making a cosy filling dinner for me and dd

I've got the heating on, got the Argos Christmas catalogue out for dd, asking what she wants for Christmas (she is not interested)

I am almost 35, so I was young when Westlife came out, but I was a hardcore fan 🙈🙈🙈😄

IMO their first album is a Christmas album!

I loved eternal when I was about 8-9 in 1995 or so. I wanted to be Louise so much!

And then later all saints.

Okay I was about 7 or 8 and a hardcore Westlife fan!

Louise is stunning still

My poor mum got so much stick for me listening to 'adult music' but we didn't understand!!

I was obsessed with Boyzone, The Spice Girls, All Saints, TLC, Backstreet Boys, Savage Garden...

And the 90s had the best one hit wonders - Semisonic, Chumbawumba...

I thought Autumn/Winter, but I’m curious too!

@WearingBeautifulShoes

Yeah autumn winter - just me, happier, colder and cosier!

Looking forward to Christmas and wearing jumpers, baking, cooking cosy dinners, dancing with dd and telling her about winters past

That first play of Fairytale of New York is heaven 😌😌

😄🙈🙈🙈 yes that is as sad as it sounds

Nirvana

WhatDoRacoonsSay · 18/10/2026 13:58

I liked all of them, big boyband fan, still am.
I've seen Take That and Westlife this year.

RikthePoet · 18/10/2026 13:40

Sure.

And people listened to The Beatles throughout the 90s, but they're not a "90s pop group" either.

Edited

Hardly - three years later not the same at all but then you know that and are being deliberately obtuse. Crack on it’s the last time I’ll respond to you who is bringing down a lovely thread.

I ended up on a tour bus with chumbawumba in 1995 ( I was friends with their support act). Lots. Of. Fun.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/10/2026 14:31

Oasis but I wasn’t thinking of them as ‘pop’

Somedayitwillclick · 18/10/2026 14:33

MintTwirl · 18/10/2026 13:35

No mention of Take That yet!!
Spice Girls and All Saints, Sugababes, 5ive.

I was thinking this- far too many comment before there was a mention off take that - they are still my favourite. Go every time they tour

thebrowncatisback · 18/10/2026 14:33

The pop was crap but the grunge, rock indie scene was amazing

thebrowncatisback · 18/10/2026 14:34

@lifeisgoodrightnow

who was the suport?

Grade8inTrombolese · 18/10/2026 14:37

Nirvana, Radiohead, R.E.M, Green Day

Too old for boy bands in the 90s!

Joulesyhoukes · 18/10/2026 14:38

Depeche Mode...they started in 80s but in 90s they had the best songs..

Isittimeformynapyet · 18/10/2026 14:42

Pixies.

I listened to as little "pop" as possible.

newmenewwhatever · 18/10/2026 14:42

The Cure and Pulp

but I adored Let Loose 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Waitingfordoggo · 18/10/2026 15:13

Pulp and Radiohead were my faves.

The Smiths split up in 1987.

Didn’t compilations and previously unreleased music continue to come out in the 90s though?

Oh I forgot Radiohead!

I checked…they had a number one album in 1992.

In 1992:
15 August: This Charming Man (reissue) – No. 8
29 August: Best… I (album) – No. 1
12 September: How Soon Is Now? (reissue) – No. 16
24 October: There Is a Light That Never Goes Out – No. 25
14 November: Best… II (album) – No. 29

In 1995:
18 February: Ask (reissue) – No. 62
4 March: Singles (album) – No. 5

PamelaColmansMustard · 18/10/2026 15:32

I loved Mansun. And Radiohead. Not pop though - I still listen to them now 😁

Urgentbiscuitrequired · 18/10/2026 15:39

I think the early 90s was the best era. Late 90s was pretty bad. So many different genres in the early 90s, still a lot of rubbish like Mr Blobby though.

Loved Brit Pop and bands, the early 90s hip hop and dance.

Boy band wise it was Take that and East 17 for me. I didn't really like any others. I bloody hated Westlife and Boyzone. My mum liked it!

It all went a bit wrong later in the decade when rap went crude and grandiose, and you had shit boys bands and X-Factor and PopStars dominating.

MyFavouriteGame · 18/10/2026 15:51

Take That, Radiohead, Nirvana, Oasis and Blur.

I was very into Brit pop and grunge.

TheRealSmurfette · 18/10/2026 15:52
