Idiot ex husband still has his car registered to my address. Today he received a parking fine. I took great pleasure in telling him about it and ruining his morning 😊

Many moons ago after the latest in a long line of hearings about dc the jidge said he needed to speak to me at the end regarding a huge fine amount..
Exh looked very smug as he left court...
7k of fines in fact.
No tax /mot/insurance over a prolonged period..
Except idiot exh forgot I had court paperwork that declared he got the car in the divorce and they were indeed his fines to pay.
He had to declare himself bankrupt.
Karma indeed.

So you then got zero in CMS of he was bankrupt? @Pumpkinsaregrowingnicely

These days they are wanting people to have no fault clean break divorces, so no claim on ongoing pensions, and kids split 50:50 so no child support.
My problem was, I didn’t have enough money to take my ex to court (and he knew that) and he hid money all over the place, I just about afforded my solicitor and came away with less than I should have. I simply wasn’t protected as a single mum going through a divorce with an abusive ex. Even when the financial order was sorted, he was in breach of one aspect, and I was told I’d need to pay 4-5k to take him to court to challenge his breach of the order I had paid 10k to a solicitor to sort.
It’s ridiculous. No protection for me as a single mum. I didn’t earn enough to be able to afford to fight him, but earned too much to get free legal aid. now he’s taking part of the child benefit from me even though he won’t get much of it as he earns too much to keep it. It’s all out of spite.

You would have done better if you had simply written return to sender and posted it back. The fine then doubles when not paid on time 🥳

I would have done the same thing and then forgotten about it.

How long ago did you split?

About 12 months but still being finalised in courts if you can believe it!

Edited

Assuming the ex had a job he would still be expected to pay his child support. I’m pretty sure bankruptcy doesn’t allow a person to write off child support payments and nor should it.

And when you handed over with a snug smile you didn’t say - you need to change your address by the end of the day?

Summerstuff · 14/10/2026 16:04

This is the sort of thing where ultimately if you had not have passed it over as someone suggested - your kids will have suffered potentially later down the he line .

So don’t stoop low

I don’t get any child support because we are 50:50 with kids. I was divorced recently.. have things changed?

If he was working and owed court fees, then he would have come to an arrangement with them to pay on a monthly basis.

Fact he had to go bankrupt would strongly indicate this was not the case.

The courts want the money. They don’t expect lump payments

Firefly100 · 14/10/2026 16:17

I'd definitely return to sender / not known at this address. Not only will he likely need to pay more when it eventually reaches him but hopefully he will also get into trouble for not changing his car's registered address when he moved.

That’s naughty. Very tempting.

Pumpkinsaregrowingnicely · 16/10/2026 13:06

He ranked them up deliberately to try and get me in debt so why shouldn't i be happy he had to pay them?

Courts would not make an unemployed disabled person pay £7k court fees as lump sum meaning he had to declare himself bankrupt. Somewhere along the way you have misunderstood what happened.

He would have been given a pathetic repayment plan of something like £3 a week

Pumpkinsaregrowingnicely · 17/10/2026 19:16

Oh his bankruptcy probably accumulated from never paying anything. Dc often told me df had no gas or electricity.
He has £££ in the bank. I saw for myself. He chose to not pay anything..

Weird is such an understatement..
