DD dad just announced he wants to take her on a cruise 10 days before end of summer term ( year 10 ). Surprised me as he is always on about how important next 2 years are for DD . I said her missing 3 days of last week not be a massive issue but 10 days I dont agree with. He says they probably wont be doing much last 2 weeks year 10 ... He hasnt taken her abroad for 8 years on holiday & she really excited . There is an option for a week cruise he can take her on so she only misses 3 days I said that be much better but he just pushing now for me tp agree to her missing 10 days school. He lives 3 hour drive from us so only sees her at half terms & half holidays so not involved with her school. AIBU to say no to taking her out of school for 10 days last term of year 10?

We got My DDs work experience dates this week, it would fall in the 10 day period before school ends. We've also always been very relaxed on term time holidays but I’d not be automatically ok with this. I asked my dd if she was ok missing the last 3 days this year ( year 10) she’d normally be ok but said she dosnt want to miss the end of year 10.

i think it’s hard if she wants to go, If she’s not missing work experience or exams and she’s desperate to go I would say ok but dad pays your share of the fines and deals with the school and any push back.

@supportAct He is very contradictory as most of the time he is moaning that DD doesnt get enough homework, needs to buckle down as these 2 years are so important. Then he does this ?! Ive asked what she thinks and she doesnt want to miss last 10 days. She said 3 is the max & even that she is unsure. Its hard for her too as she is in the middle of it all.

Does your daughter not get a say in her own education here ?!

Edited

@Fidgety31 absolutely. Im talking to her about her thoughts , what she wants but it just puts her in a tricky position with him too. He is pretty headstrong over things like this.

Our sons school yr 10s do an 'enrichment week' usually the last full week of term. This consisted of local trips and activities in school, our ds enjoyed some of it but found ithers 'boring. Lots of kids didn't turn in for some of the days.
if her school does something similar id be prepared to let her go with her DF as long as he pays the fine!
