Should eBay be more like vinted

I bought a phone on eBay recently and the seller hasn’t sent it and is ignoring all my messages. I know I’ll get my money back eventually, so that’s not really the issue. It’s more the fact that it was a lot of money for me, and I’ve had the same old iPhone for years. I finally decided to treat myself to something nice for ME for once, as I never buy myself anything, and it was meant to be a birthday treat. Now I have to wait until I’m refunded before I can afford to buy another one, so my birthday treat has been put on hold. 😩
I’ve heard of these loan scams where people list phones they don’t actually have because they need the money as a temporary loan until payday, and I can’t help wondering if that’s what’s happened here.
It got me thinking, though, why doesn’t eBay operate more like Vinted, where the seller doesn’t receive the money until the buyer has received the item and confirmed everything is okay? Surely that would help prevent this sort of thing from happening in the first place? Does anyone else think eBay should do this?

Vinted if you don’t post it within 5 working days your money is refunded and sale is cancelled none of this we will give them a week after that to respond 🤦‍♀️

I think people are struggling to understand this so eBay is giving a week AFTER the deadline to respond. Not a week to post. But im not going to go round in circles explaining that to people deliberately twisting things.

I love eBay and don't like Vinted, so no, I don't think it should. I think items on eBay are much better presented, Vinted looks very messy!

Vinted doesnt allow you to post catalogue pictures, thats why
No way am I buying something that I cant see the condition of

Vinted must have improved since I last used it, then. I've been sent the wrong parcel by InPost and, separately, bought a non-existent item. Both snafus involved waiting over a month for my money back, following quite complicated procedures.

I find raising queries on eBay more straightforward & efficient.

Your item was sent (albeit the wrong item), can you not see the difference? If your item doesnt get sent then yes you would be refunded after 5 days. So thats different.

No proof of postage has been uploaded and sure your seller didnt ignore you?

No because the seller was very good at communicating and replied to me explaining they had posted with their proof of postage.
Ebay will definitely refund you. It's a pain to wait a few days but you will get your money back

It hasn’t been a few days in total it will be 2 weeks by the time I am able to request a refund.

I knew it would be twisted, they have a week to respond to the CLAIM, not from when I bought it, from when I was forced to open a claim because they didn’t send it and won’t respond to emails, I gave them enough time to send it before putting in the claim now. You understand now? They’ve already had time to post it the week is additional time given.

Nice manners - I'm not in charge of eBay by the way. Yes it is taking some time. That's unfortunate. But it would be the same wherever you purchased it. Also a friend of mine waited over a month for a Vinted refund, so I don't think they are the shining bastion of near-instant refunds that you seem to think they are. I guess I would have understood earlier if you had mentioned all of that earlier. It's called providing the facts. You understand now? If you don't like their refund terms then buy elsewhere, seems fairly obvious. See I can be a snarky cow too.

Maybe learn to read then you wouldn’t be confused, I clearly stated they had a week to respond to the claim, your problem for poor reading, and as already been explained but you clearly need it explaining again, your friend waited a month because they item WAS posted, if it isn’t it’s 5 days.

I sell on ebay. As a PP said when you first join, or start selling again after a break they hold your payments for up to 15 days for a few months. I now get the money credited to my eBay account the day after I sell an item. They don't use PayPal anymore you have to pay through the ebay payment system. They do refund if a seller doesn't send something out and as you have to buy postage through ebay too they have a way of tracking it. (I also get a 2 or 3 day window in which I have to post items.) My understanding of vinted is that not everyone ticks that the parcel has been received so sellers don't get paid very quickly which isn't fair either.. I hope you get your refund soon.

Try a specialist refurbished device seller like BackMarket.

Thats not correct, theyve had over a week and haven’t posted it

They've obviously ignored the posting date (unless they have holiday mode enabled but that should have automatically warned you they were away). What's their feedback like? Have you reported them to ebay? Have you contacted your card company or bank as they can often get ebay to respond quicker?

Please don't tell me I'm not correct - I'm telling you how selling works from my perspective which gives me dates by which things need to be posted and unfortunately I don't know what happens if I miss the deadline because I always post same or next day depending on when I get the sale notification. I've been on ebay for over 20 years through many, many changes. There have always been 'chancers' or 'scammers' but in my experience ebay tend to side with the buyer so you are very likely to get your money back. I know you want it now but huge retailers like amazon, M&S, Next etc all take 10 to 14 working days to process straightforward refunds.... Like I said before, I hope you get your refund soon.

I've just looked at something on ebay and Paypal was most definitely offered as a payment option.
