To want a clothes collection that actually donates to charity?

I have done a big clear out of children's and my clothes, so have loads of good quality stuff that I'd like to go to charity. Trouble is, all of my local shops are very difficult about donations - you can only take a small amount, you can only donate on certain days (which seem to change constantly) etc.

Ideally I would like to just get rid in one go. The local clothes bins at the supermarket are allegedly for charity, but when you read the small print just seem to sell on and then donate a tiny per cent of profits.

I've found a few places online that will collect, but either they don't say what will happen to the clothes, or it turns out they are selling them abroad and then giving an undisclosed amount to charity which I imagine is very small.

BHF will only collect clothes along with furniture which I don't have. Are there any genuine charities which would collect? I found one called Triad but it's London only.

@BoogieWonder try independent charity shops. We have a local one that takes all clothes. They sell the nice stuff in their shop (and for sensible prices!) then anything thats too or worn old goes into bundles and is sold per kg for recycling.

if you want the charities to collect for free but they then can’t sell the clothes what is the point?

I do want them to sell the clothes?!

You might want them to, but that doesn’t mean they are able to. They work in the way that is best for them in terms of effort vs reward.

If you are near me, the Sue Ryder shop is the one in nearby town that rhymes with Plough and the Thames Hospice one is in the town beginning with M in RBWM.

Why would you think the OP was near you?

Find a warehouse-style charity shop in your area and ask if they'll take a car-load. There are two in my area near me. Both are hospice ones.

My location is part of my username.

Why on earth do you have that user name??

Our local charity shop has tightened up on what they will accept. We are careful only to take good quality items after having some serviceable but slightly discoloured dinner plates rejected. Now it feels like a compliment to have donations accepted! We have to take them in small quantities because they don't have much storage space, but they make stacks of money for charity.
