I want to organise a Halloween party

But don’t know how to even begin. I’m an anxious highly shy person but doing this for my daughter who id also a very shy 7 year old. I started off asking the 2 friends she has but the mothers told me they already had plans for Halloween.

So im planning to ask other kids in the class but how shall I go about this? Won’t it be boring for them to come over my home? How can I make it more fun? What kind of things can I do? What about timings? I’m so stressed but really don’t want another year to go by and regret I didn’t organise anything. I work full time so won’t see the mums at drop off or pick up so will have to invite over text. Shall I send text one to one or as a group?

I’ve been following an account on social media on how to be a better mum and make your kids fit in and one of the things was to be the mum that organises things and invites people to her house.

I have just seen this.

Top tip - stop following this absolute crap. It's complete nonsense and is designed to make you feel inferior.

@Mummy264 I agree with @frozendaisy we all have our innate personality and though you can try and model behaviour deep down we don’t change. I’m very outgoing as is DS. My lovely DD who sadly died a few years ago was just like her Father a much quieter type of person.

You don't have to do anything. Halloween has become a competitive display of consumerism with the sole intent of making people spend money. Parents need to start saying 'no' a bit more.

This is true

But there was one house (big posh one) with a long path and imposing doorway, they had lit pumpkins all up the path and when they opened the door it was dry ice/Adams family - it was incredible. Kids were in Halloween heaven. And the parents were impressed as well.

It was clearly a lot of work, they wanted people to knock.

And that's fine if they are doing it because they want to. Totally different if there is a sense of obligation or pressure.

Most people will have plans on Halloween evening or family traditions. Have a little party on the Thursday evening 6 to 8pm or the Friday.

I agree that you don't have to plan it on the actual date, can be another day when everyone would be free. I'd text a few mums individually and keep it small, maybe 4-6 kids for a couple of hours. Simple games, snacks, Halloween music and a little treasure hunt are more than enough!
You could also make a Halloween slideshow with scenes from Hotel Transylvania, Casper or The Nightmare Before Christmas to play on the TV.
Try not to stress too much, OP, and don't worry about making it perfect. Even a small get-together could mean so much to your daughter and no one is born to be a perfect host, it all comes with experience!

I do understand your thinking, but honestly you are far far far too late to be organising anything for Halloween. It's the Saturday of half term in most places and as you have discovered most people have plans.

So do two things.

On the day dress up and go trick and treat early, then come back to yours and have sweets to give out. So that you are all doing something on Halloween. Spend the day carving pumpkins and making your costumes.

Then separately maybe the Friday of the following week invite her two friends for a playdate.

Then if you really want to plan a Halloween party for next year and invite people the first week of September
