To leave baby for evening

Hi all, lookIng for advice and posting here for traffic.

I have an 8 almost 9 month old breastfed baby who used to take a bottle but now doesn’t.

I have a night out planned for Sunday (haven’t done anything without kids for months) and have been trying to get her to take a bottle or either formula or pumped milk and she absolutely will not take it!

She will take some from an open cup and is on 3 meals a day already!

WIBU to go even though she won’t have a full meal feed in that time?

I’ll be gone around 3pm to 11pm at the latest?

Can’t stop worrying but really want this evening!

No I wouldn’t be leaving a child under 1 for more than an hour that doesn’t take a bottle of milk.

But she’s on three meals a day? So hardly going to starve, plus she’ll take milk from a cup

Are you serious?!?!?

Of course you can leave a baby for more than an hour even if they don't take a bottle. FFS. Especially one that is eating 3 meals a day and drinks from a cup. By 9 months their milk intake is about a pint per day, less if enjoying good portions of solid foods.

Might be a steep learning curve for both dad and baby, but she'll drink from a bottle if thirsty.

NB - I bf'd for 12 months and never went for a night out because my useless exh decided he couldn't tolerate any fussing if baby was remotely unsettled even if I was out for just 30 mins.

I do most bedtimes for ease as my DH takes my eldest DD, baby will settle with rocks if she wakes in the night from dad, I just feed her back to sleep so I don’t have to get out of bed 😂

You need to swap with dh for a few nights to see how it goes first

Why? If it was going to be a regular thing of course start early. But its a one-off.

Thanks everyone for your input and different perspectives. I’m on my way to my evening! Baby had a big feed before I left and was chomping on banana muffins as I was on the way out the door!

I went back to work when my DS was 6 months old and he wouldn't take a bottle. For me. Apparently the childminder had no issues whatsoever after the first day!

Who is looking after the baby? Her grandma? A female relative? And you shouldn't be going on nights out with a baby that young.

I'd assume her dad... you know... her parent...

Parents can go out. No one would be batting an eyelid and daddy going on a night out.

@Missxxx You're taking the piss aren't you? 😂😂

I don’t know why so many women define themselves entirely as a mother when they have a baby and cease to have any other identity. It’s not healthy for anyone, neither baby, mother, or father. And I don’t see many men doing it. If you can’t trust your partner to look after your child for one evening when your child is 9 months old, maybe don’t have children with them if they’re that useless. It’s not about a mothering urge (mine was extremely strong and still is even DD is at Uni). It’s about having a life - and that’s a good thing to model to your children.

Fuck off with your outdated misogynistic views.

Op doesn't cease to be a person just because she is a mother.

Hope you're having fun op.

Get someone else to give her the bottle, and be out when they do. It might be you've tried this, of course, but often they won't take it from their mum but will from someone else, so if you haven't tried that, maybe give it a go.

Had a lovely time at my show, baby fell asleep on dad when he was reading big sister a story and is still asleep now, I’ll be home in 30 mins. She never did take a bottle though!

Left her alone, there’s food in the fridge.
